"Another Random Portrait"

Busy day today for me, and by the time i sat down the kids were tired and ready for bed, so i collared Rebecca for a quick portrait :)

It also give me the opportunity to 'test' my new Tokina 100mm Macro and ring flash out (bought from another member here), and it works a treat with the flash giving a nice even light :)

Lovely shots there Chris. I assume you had no "issues" at the pool?

Thanks Marc :)

No trouble at all Marc. I find that the 'larger' events have a more professional attitude towards photographers, and they require you to sign in and provide proof of ID (photo ID). You even get a badge :D

"Spud & Spoon Race!"

It was Sports-Day at Caitlins school this morning. The events included Javelin (soft foam javelins used!), 100m Sprint, Spud & Spoon Race and Target shooting (Beanbags into hoops).

Caitlin came first in the Spud & Spoon race, just beating her best friend Grace (Also in the picture), and came first in the heat of the 100m sprint, but came 3rd in the final which was run straight after her heat.

Best of all the weather held off and everyone had a good time.

i thought it was meant to be egg and spoon race?

ahh, the mess. makes sense now! lovely photo btw, and congrats to caitlin on winning:woot:

Thanks Marc.

The school have an open policy on photography (good job really :D), and actively encourage parnets to take pictures.

In fact the head has asked if she can use some of mine in promotional materials for the school :) I'm also doing the class shots for the official school christmas cards this year (i did them last year as a last minute thing while they were being filmed by Channel M for the Choir competition and they went down a storm ;)

How it should be. So much all those other schools are missing out on although I suspect that they are probably in the minority and are just hyped up by the media.

Another super capture Chris.

When is the next Gym episode with nutter parents?

I'm so looking forward to hearing the next instalment!
Sorry you have to do the dirty work while I sit here and observe... honest :)

Was gonna ask about the next gym night too, Friday, cool look forward to the next episode (will get some beer and pizza in).

Sorry . . . . :coat:

are you taking the camera on friday?

set up another parent with a video camera to record the abuse you get:D

"Experiments with CLS"

I thought it was about time i messed around with off camera flash a bit more and start using it for portraits, so I got the manual out (yeah i know - shocking, a man reading the manual!!), and figured out how to get the SB800 into remote mode. I also took the opportunity to sort out my Lee Filter Swatches so i could have a play with them too.

This is my first attempt with the slave flash being camera left with a bit of -EV dialed in. More practice needed i think!

I'm surprised she's not blinking, CLS is less than ideal for portraits with all that flashing going on.

I'm only after trying a self portrait with CLS.

Cyclones rule is quite good to stand by and isn't that far away, depends greatly on distance to the subject, background etc. But -2ev works well for fill flash. Even less sometimes.

Grea detail in that portrait :) reminds me that I need to practice with my flash a bit more too ;)
