Daily Carol's 365 from 12th December 2012 - A Year of Happiness

Carol love Day 22 .....................The question is do you want to pack up? Your choice not other folks ...............

I have been packed up 7 years now and I did it because I wanted NOT because other wanted me too !!!

Vince I definitely want to pack in .... for so many reasons not just the trip but I see how much money it is costing ... at nearly 6.50 a pack that is a lot of money to spend just to watch it all 'go up in smoke' :shake: With 2 of us smoking it is costing over 75.00 a week!!! I have until August to save and that will be a grand total of 2700.00GBP!!!!! Now that will pay for one fantastic trip to Chicago :) and maybe even a new lens or three!!

Vince, that's very true. I've tried to quit 3 times previously purely because of money and others wanting me to.. at the time, I still really loved smoking. I failed all 3 times within the week! This time, it was money AND I had started to detest it. I'm almost 2 weeks in and have yet to even want to go back to them. 2 weeks isn't long but it's a long time for me!
2 weeks is still brilliant though Toni....... I tried quitting a few times a few years ago but circumstances caused me to give in every time :(

Thats an ace close up Carol!! i need to stop too but it's soooo hard!

T..... already have a list of about 500 things that I could do

Loved these little roses and the colour was just gorgeous - even in the rain :)

Thanks Matt :) Tried to edit them but they didnt look any better so left them as they were .... too late in the night to be trying too much

Those roses are a lovely colour - looks like they got a real soaking!

Thanks Sam :) Yes they did and so did I :(

Pretty!!... They are lovely carol, such a beautiful colour :-)

Loving that warm rich colour carol...packed into the frame not too tight..but fills it nicely..

Those look good enough to eat! Gorgeous colours, I love it.

Just left outside in the rain and cold - no playing in this weather :(

hmmmm I think you may be right there Vince :shake: though can't quite put my finger on it

I think with the ball just being left in the garden with the leaves around it was the idea of abandonment that I had ....... just can't think what SHOULD be there though :shake: any suggestions?

I AGREE:thinking:

David Beckham

Like the roses image Carol.... great colours....
The 'abandoned' image.... whilst I can relate to that(having 3 sons)... I also can't quite think why it isn't working...maybe a child's shoe abandoned with it might work...

YES!! By golly I think you have it Lee!!! :D Was just looking at it and thinking a Footie Boot laid sideways next to it maybe :)

I like the idea of the boot, but maybe also a slightly different angle, lower maybe instead of from above? Or a different time of day with different light? Good idea though.

Thanks Sam, Vince and Lee - great ideas which will be put into action for another shot at a later date :)

Your flowers are lovely Carol.
Not so sure about the football as others have said. Maybe too well lit?

Phil

another good idea there Matt ..... all written down and to be remembered for another shot at it :) Thanks

have got my notebook at the ready :)

Maybe if you pulled back a bit, with some empty space around the ball, it might have been more successful? Maybe with the kid/s running back to the house, oof, in the background? Not even having to go so far as that... just empty space, focus on the ball.

It's quite disheartening not quite getting the shot isn't it? You have it in you though; tomorrows will be better!

Thanks Toni :) My main problem is that I have only ever used the camera for birds and flowers so trying to capture anything else is 'out of range' for me if you know what I mean..... I started this challenge to learn (and I definitely am :D ) about other aspects of photography..... People photos scared me for so long and then I started doing the venues (after Glenns Boss insisted I did them instead of the other photographers - they were too posed he said) - that helped me a lot and now having to find something to photograph every day is a challenge that I want to do even if the day isnt always the best to do it in ..... I am having to make my mind work .... not too easy to start with but am sure that within a few weeks it will be ok and ill be in full flow ..... even started up a box of tricks with odd things that I can use .... ribbons, coloured cardboard etc and going to buy some black felt and white felt tomorrow for backdrops (thanks to Tezza for that idea) I'm even going to pluck up courage to ask my neighbours if I can photograph their children - only for practice purposes to start with but will see how it goes. Inspiration comes and goes very quickly and so does confidence sometimes and tbh I was dreading the critique (bad experience on another site :( ) but on here everyone is friendly and helpful and that always helps a lot :D

You are doing so well carol!!... its funny isn't it as soon as we start something like this we realise how useful props can be, we also see what we tend to stick to shooting wise... huge learning curve!

Critique we all know is good or we will never learn... but it is all in how it is said and that is what can be upsetting.....

I'm sure your neighbour will be absolutely thrilled if you take photos of her kids especially if she gets a couple of images:D .. situations like that gain experience for us, i was like that with my friends little girl....

Another option on this pic... tho i know its wet and muddy, carry a bin bag or something and maybe try shooting low down?... often can have great results:D:D

Thanks T :) Yes its weird how you realise what you can and cant do with something like this but it is encouraging me to learn even more ..... My Christmas pressie from Glenn were 2 Digital Photography books with so many hints and tips from the Works Book Shop - best pressie ive had for a long time and surprised him that I was so happy with so little (so he thought  ) Im always looking at other peoples photographs and learning from them - using their themes but trying to get my own way with them :) My daughters B/F showed me something the other week and I have been trying and trying to get it right and tonight I suceeded .... not brilliant but a start to what it was.... figured out how to set the camera and make sure it was focused etc and came up with this ..... only my name but a start :D

I'm definitely going to ask the neighbours as they all have kids of various ages so I can really practice :)

The upsetting critique I tend to try and take with a pinch of salt ....... I dont mind critique as long as it is constructive and helps me to become better at what I enjoy :)

and will have a bin bag next time :D x

Sometimes, the harshest critique is the best critique......might not seem like it, but, it's often enough to spur you on, and, stops you getting complacent....

Oh I know Lee :) but it is still constructive even if it is harsh so if it spurs me on then all well and good.
I posted a photo of my 1 year old grandaughter on one site - knew it wasnt the best of photos but wanted some idea how to improve for the next time..... she had just had her lunch and was playing with her older brother and i just clicked away. I was told her hair could have been styled and face wiped. I knew that and explained I was asking about the focus, exposure etc and was told the picture wasnt good enough to be talking about those aspects :( IMO That kind of critique is too harsh really when I had explained that I was a beginner

Yep, I know what you're saying, I've had harsh critique too...it is disheartening...
I think here you won't have that problem....

I have never had that problem here - ever! Everyone is kind enough to realise who is beginning and who is experienced and give critique accordingly .... The critique here has been nothing but helpful and has encouraged me in every way. That is one thing I cannot fault this site for :) I have even recommended it to friends and had one join up and start the 52 challenge in his first week. I'm here for good now (stop moaning in the background Kev!!! Its yours and Matts fault that I fell into the dark crazy corner  )
