Daily Carol's 365 from 12th December 2012 - A Year of Happiness

I have never had that problem here - ever! Everyone is kind enough to realise who is beginning and who is experienced and give critique accordingly .... The critique here has been nothing but helpful and has encouraged me in every way. That is one thing I cannot fault this site for :) I have even recommended it to friends and had one join up and start the 52 challenge in his first week. I'm here for good now (stop moaning in the background Kev!!! Its yours and Matts fault that I fell into the dark crazy corner  )

Well, at least you're doing it...
I only got as far as thinking about it ...

Well its never too late to start Lee and Im sure it would be a fantastic 365 from you ;)

I understand what you're saying Carol :) I have a weird feeling of anticipation and anxiety every time I submit my posts on here just in case someone is unnecessarily harsh rather than giving critique. I touched on it in my thread but it's one of the reasons I left college; harsh feedback rather than critique. I have my style and way of doing things that not a lot of people like or see as "valid" if that makes sense so it can be very nerve wracking... but it makes us better in the long run :D

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure I could follow it through....
I'm not the most creative of people..lol.
I'm content to just plod on, taking my own set of images.... and asking for specific help when I need it.

My Dad was a Pro Photographer in his younger days (worked on Fleet Street is one of his main achievements as far as he is concerned) and he always used to tell me ....

" Carol, if you see something and you think it is beautiful then it is ..... it doesnt matter if others don't think the same. It is your eye that is seeing it and therefore it IS beautiful. Capture what you see and know that it is beautiful to at least one person .....YOU!'

I always stuck to that so it doesnt matter if some dont like or see your images as valid.... if you took them then you must have thought they were beautiful in one way or another :) So really then we must both be INvalid as I think your images are wonderful :D

Maybe something to think about in the future then ..... or do something similar to another member - a 365 just of birds :) Now your images would be great on something like that :D

Lol... that wouldn't be a challenge to me, as I have well over that amount of bird images anyway.... I just don't show them...don't know why really...probably because I don't think they're good enough :)

If I can get images of birds even half as good as yours then I will be very happy :D

light painting is something i have never tried ...maybe i should ;) will need t read up on it ..thanks for the idea :)

Well done on getting your name in one, it's not easy, I know with the numbers I kept doing them the wrong way round!
The focus is very slightly off, and a tip I would give is to set your focus to manual and focus where your hand will be, set your apeture to something like f8 exposure 25secs at ISO 200 and you should get it sharp, they were the settings I used the other night.

Thanks for that info Sarah .... I tried loads of times and either got the image too high or out of focus - that one was the best of the bunch :) I was trying to remember everything that he had told me and it just wasnt coming back to me but will try those settings for the next one - Thanks again :)

Well I managed to get an hour in town and walked along the sea front and under the North Pier (always wanted to go there for some reason  ) Looked up at the railings and saw these lovely details - even though it was rusted and a bit battered it was still lovely to look at :)

Love the textures in the wood(?) at the bottom... wonder what it looked like in its heyday!

Oh light painting, well you know I'm going to love that  even if it is a little lacking on the focus department, keep at you'll get there with it

edit: I have to say I really do like aged

Matt

Yes its wood Toni :) .... It was supposed to be absolutely stunning and the only Pier that has a Theatre on it. The other two have Funfair amusements on which spoils the look altogether :( Will try and find a photo of it when first built for you :)

Thanks Matt :) and will keep trying with the Light painting - was stressful trying to get it right but fun - have just got a proper tripod today so will be using that from now on instead of the top of the bl**dy microwave

Carol, sorry only just caught up on your thread, an excellent start. Now that I'm subscribed you won't be able to escape :)

I particularly like the Heron, you were so lucky to get that close :)

Thanks for popping in Sarah :) Yes I was very lucky to get him so close but think the 'bread bribe' helped :D

Carol the north pier vintage is lovely , textured and natural , get up on the pier and take some shots of the cast seating , amazing

Thanks Vince :) Will go up on Pier next time Im in town and try that as well as some 'inland' shots :)

You're doing well with the light painting - I'm so convinced I'd never get the hang of it, I've not even attempted it in the past.....who knows, though, now that I've got to do a photo a day I might give it a go!

Really like the railings on the pier as well - ditto to what has been said about the textures and vintage feel.

Have fun with the tripod - far easier to lug about than a microwave as well!

Thanks Sam and yes I agree ... much easier than microwave

.... and the day has been full of it :( Thought I had the last two days off but work called this morning to ask why I wasn't in!! Seems they changed the rota 2 days after I had looked at it and written my hours and days down but not said anything :( So one mad rush to get ready and get there as well as cancel everything that I had planned for today - including a trip to see my grandson who was 2 yesterday :(

I think it is a bit soft tbh ..... the wash line was a green plastic thing which looked terrible in the original so I edited a bit

Sorry your day wasn't how you thought it'd be :( Happens a lot over here too with my husbands work and it's no good.

However, I really like today's photo. Soft or not, I like it. It's my kind of photo :D

i kept watching the water droplet...but it didn't fall.??? simple and well composed, balanced with the OOF droplet

Oh my i love love love this... awesomesauce capture Carol and in mono an added wow:love:

That is wonderful  a simple but really striking image and I think it works so well as a B&W  nice one Carol :D

Nice drip and title of the image is spot on.....

Carol Day 26 is awesome and the monochrome works well

Thanks Guys :D Makes you realise that sometimes the things that you think are not 'quite right' look totally different in someone elses eyes :)
Thanks for the lovely comments :D

Thanks Tezz, T and Sarah :) Dread to think what the neighbours thought of me stood on a garden patio chair with camera in one hand and spray bottle in the other!!

Thats funny!! i had a spray bottle with me doing the intense shot and my daughter just gave me 'that look'!.....

I took a shot of dew on my washing line for one of my early days .. However I used a small aperture and flash turning day into light. Really empathising the dew droplets... So I know how mad it can look..

Well I was walking to the shop trying to figure out what I could take for my POTD before I ended up at work and I saw a flicker of white feathers as I passed the lake and there were the swans :) so a mad rush round the shop and home for bread and camera :D

I couldnt decide which one to pick so have picked two out the lot - took so many and in different modes (practice)

Liking the second swan... Could have done with a brighter day or upping the exposure maybe. Love that droplet on the end of the beak..

Thanks Kev :) actually upped it a bit as it came out so dark but will up it again :) Love the droplets of water (have a thing about birds and water )
