No we're not.
Eventually we may destroy ourselves, but after that the planet will recover quite nicely without us.
Forgive me if I don't start hoarding bottled water and canned/dried food just yet.

"Life on earth can take care of itself. In the thinking of a human being, a hundred years is a long time. A hundred years ago, we didn’t have cars and airplanes and computers and vaccines.… It was a whole different world. But to the earth, a hundred years is nothing. A million years is nothing. This planet lives and breathes on a much vaster scale. We can’t imagine its slow and powerful rhythms, and we haven’t got the humility to try. We have been residents here for the blink of an eye. If we are gone tomorrow, the earth will not miss us.”
― Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park

Humans are scumbags, everyone of us, me included. Facebook is worse, it's a website full of scumbags who are not thinking, just clicking likes.

Why do people feel the need to denigrate the whole of humankind to such an extent? I look out my door and see a nice place to be and good people around me.

Who else of a certain age remembers the phrase "reds under the bed" paranoia is not a new thing ;)

I'm too young to remember 'better dead than red', but I've heard about it and yes its very familiar - predjudice and paranoia are part of the human condition, but most of us keep it in check most of the time

And to prove that point, I spend a lot of time working on landfill sites, where just about every conceivable waste product ends up. At the moment I'm looking at a few hundred square meters of scaring, that is the working cell. But I can also see several hundred acres that mother nature has reclaimed. Just this morning, I've seen a Fox stalking one hedgerow. A Kessie or two catching mice / voles. Last week a female peregrine and a male Goshawk hunting. Plus a myriad of flora that I have no idea of the names of. Yes mother nature is quite capable of repairing our scars ;)

Well I'm not sharing my water in my house on top of a hill.

I forgot to add solicitors and legal peeps they mess everything up also.

By screwing the law for financial gain rather than doing what is right for society

You have no clue at all the kind of work carried out by the majority of those in the legal field.
Too much reading of gutter press and no win no fee adverts.

National Accident Group (before they went bust) / Accident Helpline etc

I'm sure some lawyers are fine upstanding citizens (just as some traffic wardens are helpful and some accountants are interesting) but the reason there's a stereotoype about the law is the number of ambulance chasing shysters there are out there " have you had an accident in the last x months, have you no sense of personal responsibility, call us free on 0800... no win no fee

They are by far the minority.
But hey if folks want to only believe what they see in the media, have at it.

Love the way people are so 'offended' - will never step foot in a weatherspoons pub again (tbh, I agree but for different reasons!)... not really sure how they are to blame, unless they employ someone to check every board or wall for posters every minute of the day.

Surely though if you wanted to put up a poster like this to offend you would pick a place where you are more likely to get muslims than a pub!

Honestly?
A poster designed only to offend is discovered to be offensive, the only point worthy of note here is that a National newspaper felt the story was newsworthy.

So IMHO the only point worthy of discussion is 'why would the DM publish this'?
Is it because they enjoy stirring the pot of intolerance? Can you think of any other reason?
As far as I can see 'people' weren't offended, a person was, and no-one in the story has suggested anything other than the poster is offensive, so where's the story.

Again; just MHO but only a half wit would see that poster and not find it offensive, it's sole purpose is to be offensive, and it's succeeded.

My point was that as a result of said poster the man would never visit a weatherspoons again, yet it seems harsh to blame them. It was in other papers too.

True but some muslims still go in pubs though.

But why?
'One man finds a poster in a pub and decides never to go to another pub' isn't a story. It's less than an irrelevance. 'A bloke overreacts a bit' and the consequence is he'll miss out on Curry Thursdays isn't worth our the amount we've discussed it for, let alone the national press.

However, wetherspoons said they had a policy to police the noticeboards, so the policy wasn't followed, or the staff locally decided the poster was fine, either way, Wetherspoons are at fault.

Depends on how long it was up for. Can't police it every minute.

The posters main objective wasn't to offend muslims but to incite racial hatred, quite an easy task looking at some of the people who frequent Wetherspoons pubs ;)

Offending Muslims isn't a criminal offense.
Inciting racial hatred is...and currently a rather "sexy" one to the media.
I'm surprised the papers aren't offering a reward for nailing the person who posted the flier.

I don't think race comes into that. It's more of a case of, had a beer, have a fight.

As I have repeatedly said, there was a complaint by a person. It's hardly newsworthy.
They were probably dyslexic and thought it was a dress code warning and muslin shirts etc. weren't acceptable.

I am not a half wit.

Read it. It's message is leave if you don't like western ways. Seems logical and right to me.

Pointless arguing Steve. The left are always right (irony). They shout louder and longer than anyone else, drowning out, deriding and berating those they don't agree with in an arrogant attempt to humiliate. So pathetically transparent it so amuses me and I just can't take them seriously. Opinions on everything but b****r all to say.

Your comprehension seems to suggest otherwise ;)
I clearly wasn't discussing the content of the poster, but it's intent.
So it appears by your reasoning, you are indeed a half wit - but you said that not me ;)
Although, the fact that you stick your fingers in your ears and shout 'La La La' every time someone puts forward facts that refute your opinions kinda points that way too. :D

I'd say that collectively we are destroying this planet.
I read somewhere that humans could not destroy the planet, somehow nature would not allow us too. So could probably make a right mess of it, but not destroy the planet literally :)

Paraphrasing the thread title, I saw a bumper sticker awhile back, it read

EARTH FIRST
We'll f*** the rest of the planets up later

;)

All the hoohah about destroying the planet is tosh.
What folk are worrying about is affecting it to the extent that humans can't survive, and that's a completely different thing.
It'll happen. And when the world is not longer infested by the human parasites, the planet will continue through it's cycles and "recover" quite happily. :-)

It survived quite happily without us for a few million years, I'm sure it will again ;)

Guy's. It seems we are starting to get personal again,
Tis a good discussion thread but I fear its heading the way of many before it.

Please stick to the topic, and not the IQ of various members,
Thank you

I didn't see any intent whatsoever to offend. I don't go looking for issues that simply aren't there. The message was loud and clear and I fully support it.

I've donated £10 to Britain first today too.
