Bolton Abbey - Sun 26-11-2006

Will try to get over to this, its always great to meet folk!
:)

Welcome to the forum realmofconfusion

Darksber, someone else to add to the bottom ;) of the list :D

Now being a total (overseas) Southener and not really totally au fait with Northern England, I've just had a thought. This Bolton Abbey, is it a bit like Leeds Castle? No where near it's namesake place!

Bolton is in Lancashire, so where is the Abbey? Do we need 2 packs of sandwiches?

Its on the outskirts of Bradford near Skipton - it actually has a Bradford postcode but is about 22 miles away from us, complete opposite end of the postcode ringy thingies.

Depends on how many sandwiches you need.

Would love to come as its not too far away, but I'm in Scotty land at my mum and dads....sorry!! :'(

There are those that haven't seen the light yet of course ;)

Canon lenses come with an extra two stops to help you with this so I hear, as the glass is made from old milk bottles....

Canons for Show, Nikons for Pro's.

Psst! You wanna borrow a 14mm Nikkor? Just ask.

With some hidden treasures

I shall be green with envy if I can't come but grandchild birthday might get in the way!:geek:

fetch them we can have a party with the sandwiches

Hmmm... one thing missing from all those views is people...

Only management and sheep present! And one of them did not want to be included!

Advance warning for anyone else travelling up from the south...

The M1 Northbound will be closed from Junctions 9-11, from 2100hrs Sat 25th Nov - 0900hrs Sun 26th Nov.

Looks like I'll be going up the A1 now!

I'm sorry but I am not sure I am going to be able to make this after all :(

The Ponderosa centre are having their Christmas Market and Activity Day on the same date and my wife really wants us to go there and support them.

I will still be taking the camera as there is a lot there to photograph so I won't lose out altogether.

I was really looking forward to meeting you all as well :(

Given that theres just over a week to go now, should we agree on a formal meeting place and time?

Having looked at the map there are 4 car parks associated with Bolton Abey, so saying meet in the car park at 0X:00 could lead to an interesting situation

Oh yeah its a week on Sunday isn't it.

Hmm.

I'll have a look at maps and things later and post something up.

Hi all , Would love to join you next weekend. Please say it's OK :)

I'm only a novice but sometimes I accidentally take some good pic's. :embarrassed: I don't have a fully fledged DSLR (Fuji S9500) and am still confused by exposure, fstops, etc. But I'm willing to learn and want to see what my camera is really capable of.

Please add me to the bottom of the list.

Welcome to the forum. The more the merrier :D

General interest, Bolton Abbey seem to have updated their web site, seem to be a shed load more info on there now.

One place that looks like a worthwhile addition to the itinerary [echo ON] The Valley of Desolation [echo OFF] :D

Ha I saw that last night Wetsparks.

[Deep Voice] THE VALLEY.........OF............DESOLATION!!!!!![Deep voice off]

Impending doom ;)

You're most welcome to come join us Richmond.

Looking forward to this, more the merrier, everyone is welcome to come along.
Any idea where we are going to meet yet?

Thanks Guys, I'll look forward to meeting you all. There are plenty of great photo opportunities, the Strid being one of them.

I'm away from the internet untill Saturday so don't think I'm ignoring you when you send the contact number.

BTW I think carparking is free in the 'off' season.

Was hoping to come to this - but still waiting on a deadline for a project which might see me working this weekend :( Can you add me as a maybe to the list?

I was having a look on Microsofts Live Local thing for good spots for photos etc, and thought some other people might appreciate this Link to it . You should just be able to click on that and it will open in your browser and let you look around the Bolton Abbey area :) (not good for 56k)

ooo - Found I can add other places to it too - This link has what seem to be the main areas :)

Okay pm's sent along with mobile number, if you want to come along and you havent put your name down as long as you have the mobile number of one of the people who is coming along you can catch up with us at any point in the day.

I need to get a couple more batteries before Sunday.

I've not had any replies back from the PMs (I can't remember if there was a need for one), can we have a nod from everyone who is still coming please?

The good news is that the BBC weather forecast predicts cloudy with sunny intervals for Saturday and Sunday in Skipton, hurrah.

Yep, although don't know what time I'll get there due to travel times and traffic. Also have to come home a different way as part of the M1 will be closed.

Does anyone who is going have a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 ? would love to see what one feels like (is that being a bit cheaky?)

not at all, i tried the 100-400L at Twycross when SDK^ offered me a go with it, i fell in love with it and a month later I had one of my own.

You can certainly see how my 100-400L is. Its a heavy b****r.

I hope to be there, cough permitting
