Bob's attempt at 52 week 27 Art OoF but i still love it

Love your Candid shot Bob, one of my favs from the week. Lovely natural lighting and gives you a good feel for the workplace.

Think you've just used this week to show off haven't you?! haha. Its a nice purchase you have made there.

Sure the pics didnt have too much thought behind them as you were so giddy and hope the caravan lets you and your camera explore more of the world this year

Dan

have to be honest there was no space to get a good pic due to the location of other vans
and yes it was a perfect chance to show off my pride and joy !!!!

oh and thatnks for the coments on my candid !!!

er ............ I have to admit I shuddered when I saw this :D

I was instantly thrown back in time to holidays with Mum and Dad in their prize possesion, the dreaded Eccles Topaz. I used to hide in shame as Dad insisted on hitching up on the driveway and then spending 40 minutes with Mum 'wanging' her hands around in the air 'directing' him off the driveway and onto the road. Congratulations, NEVER has a series of photographs effected me so much.

That helps, thanks ;) .....however I've just remembered the big stick on wing mirror, the caravan club membership, the endless discussions he used to have with people about the art of reversing ....... :bang: I need a drink :bang:

 I can see why you'd love these shots - you must be very proud of your new baby.
Bringing back memories for me too . . . but not quite as traumatic as Rob's

And despite what you say about the pics, there's actually some very nice, dramatic sky in the second one. I bet you were too busy looking at the van to even notice :p

Show off :D... it looks lovely Bob... The second does indeed have some great sky in it... The van shots aren't that bad...

I agree with RobC - brings back memories of childhood holidays, although we only had a tent - would have preferred a caravan.

Am having a few bad weeks but rather than not sumbit i am slipping these two pics in
Camera is tempermental and doing my head in as well as an illness in the family which is taking the shine offphotography for me at the mo but i will not miss any weeks

Shrewsbury castle during a shoot I did !!!!

Sorry to hear you're having a bad time of it lately
Hope things start to get better soon and well done on keeping up in spite of it all.

Not too sure about the toy museum shot. The composition isn't quite there for me, but I'm guessing it was part of a display so you didn't have much choice in it. Still a good spot for the week though.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find baby dolls a little bit creepy?
The one second from left is really freaking me out . . . something about the eyes and wrinkly skin

Shrewsbury castle is far more to my taste.
I like the frozen motion of the flag. Good textures captured in the brickwork, and you've caught a nice outline against the sky.

Chin up Bob... I hope things improve for you soon.

I have to agree with Sarah on quad, it fits the theme, but it's not grabbing me. The second doll on the left is very freaky... it's the eyes!!!!

The castle is excellent though... Nicely done.

Not keen on the dolls - I'm with Sarah and John - horrible things

Shrewsbury Castle is much better. Could maybe do with being a little sharper and a slightly different viewpoint as the top of the castle is almost on the horizon. Looks like a nice building though. Did you get any other shots of it?

I am hoping to get the hang of this camera stuff and it wil great to see how much i improve(please let me improve lol) by the end of the year !!

Hi Bob/Rachel,

Well I've been through the thread from start to finish and I can certainly say you're improving . I'm determined to work my way through the entire 52 list this week and comment on shots, so for those I've missed (like this one) it's a good opportunity to see the overall picture rather than just the last week.

The high point for me was Play. The use of the scrabble board, and the words you chose (as well as the sig) indicated thought and time spent on the shot. It was worth it.

Shrewsbury Castle is also very good with some lovely colours and a strong composition.

Later on through your 52, your own self-crit is quite accurate, so that's showing that you are learning stuff and doing well.

Keep it up!

Ian.

Glad to hear the good news about your dad. Wishing him a speedy route to a full recovery.

Your magnolia shot really is beautiful.
One of my favourite flowers and you've done it justice. Lovely, simple and elegant.
I think you could have done with just a little wider DoF - so that some of the outer petals and rain drops were fully in focus. But it really is very close to being spot on and is my favourite from your 52 so far

Stare made me laugh
Poor child - He's definitely staring and I hope there was no permanent damage despite the strangling and near miss with decapitation ;)

thanks for that I love magnolias and managed to buy a tree at the end of last summer for a mere £14.99 it had to mine !!
I can see what you DoF sadly the rain we had last night has wiped the magnolia out :'( so no re shoot available

The magnolia shot is lovely, but it just misses slightly as Sarah has said... the DOF means that a couple of bits are just a little soft which is a shame..

That's a great stare... looks cheeky despite the near decpaitation ;)...

Glad to hear about your Dad too

thanks will have to have another go next year !!!! and try and get it completely right one day ......

Agreeing with John and Sarah on the Magnolia. To me (they haven't mentioned it so it could be my old eyes or monitor) the middle petal looks a tiny bit blown. Only by a stop I'd guess. If you have the RAW it might be fixable, but then I'm no expert...

Stare is a nice shot, but the table is a bit distracting. I guess it's tough to say "Please can we clear a space so I can get a good shot of you being strangled..."

Ian.

Pretty magnolia shot, I love magnolias it is such a shame how quickly they get wiped out with rain frost etc!

I like your stare shot, it has a lovely element of humour :)....I think I would like to see a crop quite tight into his face as it would get rid of the distracting bits like the table and focus on that great expression :)

have improved the table slighty as it had loads of paper in the middle !!!

Dubrovnik on the most amazing weekend ever !!!!
yeppy thorntons courtesy of the o2 shop in town !!!!!

I like your peace shot, fella. Really nice luminance to the sun.

Very nice Peace shot, and as Dean has said, the sun works very well.

Good stuff!

Ian.

Love the peace shot love, the lighting, looks so serene and peaceful just omaging being there with a Bacardi and coke (double ) in my hand just staring out to sea ahhhhhhhhhhhh  like indulgence but not a Thorntons fan I'm afraid more of a Cadbury's woman :naughty:

Your peace shot is lovely, it portrays a peaceful evening and fits well. I've not been to Dubrovnik but i was up the coast a bit near Split, absolutely beautiful country and one i'd love to go back to now i have a decent camera.

Your indulgence shot looks a bit lost in the middle and could probably do with a few more chocolates or a tighter crop for me.

dont think I would go back to Dubrovnik as we could never afford to do it to the same standard as we did on this trip so it will always be extra special iyswim The company that my husband works for took the high achievers and their others away for the weekend they hired the galleon for us all was amazing (pampered was not the word )

the photo was taken with my sony t200 that got broken at Luton (I think) airport when i dropped my hand luggage on the way back (whisky made it though !!) thank goodness for memory cards !!!

Congratulations on the purchase of your new traffic jam creater......only kidding. We used to have an old one a few years ago but sold when we changed the car. I always got a good nights sleep in a caravan although alchohol maybe a factor as we were always camped at a motor racing circuit :D

Sorry to hear you are having a few problems and well done for keeping up.

The Quad, Shoot and stare shots are nice enough and fit the themes.

The Peace shot is very good, great composition and just enough detail in the ship and the sky.

I wish people would stop showing me chocolates, I'm trying to quit :D

:rules: These most definitely are worth looking at :bat:

Peace is an absolutely beautiful image.
Love the quality of the sunlight on the water and shining through the flag. There's a very pretty sky and just the right amount of detail in the ship to give it interest without dominating the image.
The only bit I'm not keen on is the guy in the doorway . . . just a shame that he happened to be stood there.

Lovely white background in indulgence and good detail in the chocolates. They're not an easy subject to get so sharp.
If you could have lost the shadows, then this would have been a near perfect product shot.

Thanks Sarah !! think I have cheated with the peace shot as it is a couple of years old and not one taken this month but it is quite pretty

the shadows have really annoyed me but thinking now if i had used the flash off camera (rather than just using natural sunlight) to the left hand side i would have solved the shadows ??

:agree: with Sarah... what are you on about... not worth looking at... :nono:

Peace a lovely peaceful looking scene, and I can picture being there, relaxed and just watching the waters go by... <drifts off into peaceful reverie>

Sorry where was I :D...

The Choccies work well, and I think you've done a much better job than I did on them. As for the shadows... I think there's 2 options...off camera flash or a reflector on the left, not that I can talk, as I struggle with this myself.

my reshoot of quad not brilliant i really to save up for a macro lens as i just cant get close enough with this lens
035-15.jpg

lighting not good focus pants bah and humbug !!!!

don't be too hard on yourself its not that bad, you could add a bit to it though and get a bit of sand or muck into the shot to make it more authentic. If you cant stand to a macro lens the Kenko extension tubes make a good cheaper alternative and get you in amazingly close.
