Bob's attempt at 52 week 27 Art OoF but i still love it

don't be too hard on yourself its not that bad, you could add a bit to it though and get a bit of sand or muck into the shot to make it more authentic. If you cant stand to a macro lens the Kenko extension tubes make a good cheaper alternative and get you in amazingly close.
am a bit confused about tubes ?? how do they work

They move the lens further away from the sensor and that means it increases the magnification, im not exactly sure of the physics but if you search extension tubes you will get an idea. There isn't any glass in them they are literally just tubes hence the lower price. Kenko are around 120-150 but you may be able to find them cheaper. It is better to get a brand that will have the electrical contacts on them so you can auto focus the lens. Hope this helps Bob, they are a viable option if you dont have £4-500 for a macro lens.

thanks will have to see how funds wil stretch !!!

I see no humbugs ... it works, perhaps putting the quad on some mucky stuff to give it a more suitable feel. As for the macro lens/tubes, the other option, that works is a Raynox macro converter lens, it'll still leave the electrical connections in place as it clips on the front of the lens.

It's not a bad shot Bob. Maybe tweaking the composition to have some space for the rider to drive into might have improved it slightly?

I know I had a "Stop" week like that :)

Ian.

week 24 metal

A good catch-up Bob.

I'm not going to comment on them all as it will take me all night

Isolation is bang on theme and just screams "isolation" but looks a bit out of focus to me.

Quality is certainly a quality fish. You must have a fair size tank for that. Mine isn't big enough for any tangs :shake:

Metal is brilliant. I love the silhouette of all the chains against the fire. The right hand side is a little dark but it's not too distracting.

I like your image for quad but the background is a bit distracting. Looking at the texture I would assume it's the one that comes with the ebay light tents? If you have a dunelm mill near to you have a look at the PVC material. I have just got 3 metres of black and 3 metres of white for around three quid a metre. I am pretty sure they do red as well. It works a lot better than the ones that come with the light tent.

Andy

Thanks Andy
nah its a cosy toes out of a pram .......
thought you'd like my purple tang !!!! tank is 700 litres 54" x 30" high x 19" front to back
nitrates are sky high at the mo though :o( had to take my duncan out and the suncoral to try and save them
metal was blist hill again !!!

Well done Bob on catching up.

Stop... that works and fits the theme nicely, having the focus on the face and the hand oof makes this seem like far more of a grab shot.

Isolation... very very isolation, but as Andy said, seems a bit oof...

Quality, lovely looking fish, sharp and bold colours... well done shooting it through glass... I think the composition works, but the two bright triangles behind (another fish ??) seem to grab and pull away from the tang.

Post... it's posted :D... It's caught the action well.. a shallower DOF (not sure you could, Kit lens ??) would have helped a lot.

Metal... I agree with Andy, excellent... metal in different states.. and the chains almost seem to be chaining the liquid too ;)

thanks for your comments think you are both right actually now i look it is glaringly oof
my pp skills are pants so i cant get rid of the clown fish in the background
so glad you like the metal !!!

Well done on getting up to date (almost . . . still got the dreaded grunge to go)

There are two real stand out shots for me.

The Purple Tang is gorgeous. I know how difficult it is to catch fish with the camera. They don't stay still, you're shooting through glass and the lighting is often difficult. So a huge well done on getting something so clear that stands out well from the background.
It's a shame that you caught your clown fish in the b/g, but it's not as if you can ask them to pose for you is it?

Metal is my favourite though. I think you did something similar to this a while ago, but this one really works well for me.
Strong composition and I like the way that the chains are backlit.

cheers sarah thanks for your comments :o)

Neither of them is leaping out and shouting grunge at me... but that's ok, it wasn't a nice theme.

The first is nicely composed, and I like the rather covered look he's got with the hat and sunglasses... it's cloudy so it makes you wonder what he's up to...

There's some good detail along the sheep's flanks and I like that it's got some green caught in it. The face looks a little blown.

[psst... they are both a bit on the big side...]

please excuse my ignorance, but who ??? I think you might have had some issue with motion blur.

 Sorry, but I've got no idea either!

For a concert shot, it's not that bad though. The b/g is surprisingly clean and it's actually well composed. Shame about the blur as you said.
Still, some of the best memory shots aren't necessarily the most technically brilliant. Glad that you enjoyed it (whoever it is ;))

Grungey sheep made me smile too.

what do you mean you have no idea ?? how rude!!!! It is the one and the only RICK ASTLEY ...............

oh well may be next year have not had the time or inclination to pick up the camera for ages am hoping that will change though
also i has been off for repair (dont think it was right from when i had it tbh )

That's a shame... but I do understand. Hope the camera is all well again now..

Sorry I didn't recognise Rick... I doubt I'd have been able to recognise him when he first hit the charts either ;)

Sorry to hear that Rachel. This was one of the threads that I was really enjoying.
I'll look out for you next year!
