blakester's 52 for 2010, Part 1

Clever take Iain. Why are you the only one frowning? ;)

The hair over the eye on the second down is a little distracting but not overly.

Brilliant idea. Reminds me of one picture with a face that's made up of several strips, each from a different person, but the effect was be real stunning.

Not a very inspiring theme, was it? Your take is a bit different and works very well for me - but oh to be young again!

Paul, I never noticed I was frowning:lol: until you mentioned it.
The second image down is my better half and it was a result to get her to pose for this so hair over the eye I dont mind but I can see where you are coming from though. Thanks for looking/commenting.

Francis thank-you for your comments

Tracer, thank-you too for looking and commenting.
Oh to be young again indeed. ;)

 I like it - interesting take on the theme. Some good thinking on that one!

Week 15 Single: Very stylish! I like the way the blind diffuses the light and creates a hazy effect on the cards. I'd never have thought of doing that! A good take on the theme.

Week 16 Stare: This fascinated me, Iain. In fact, I keep going back and having another look! :) It's amazing how your eye colour and your wife's are both evident in your daughters' eyes, even though they are quite different from each other. It's a brilliant take on the theme, well executed and presented - and one for the family album, too!:clap::clap:

Jean

That's a really interesting shot for stare! I took a photo of lots of pictures of hands for 'people' and some mentioned they compulsively found themselves looking and looking again at the details in the shot. I feel exactly the same way about this one - strangely compulsive viewing!

Thanks Lynton, as I have said earlier, inspiration was a bit lacking on this theme but this idea came to mind and i thought I'd give it a go. Other people's reaction to this is (pleasantly) surprising. Cheers

Jean, your comments are very kind and much appreciated. I hadn't thought about the different colours in our eyes until it was mentioned earlier. This image makes for easy comparison, which was unintentional but pleasing. Thanks again.

Phil thanks to you too, as I mentioned above the effect was'nt intended but welcome all the same.

Great idea for the project, nice to see the differences within your families eyes.
Dont frown be happy its a good image ;)

Cheers Dade, your comments are appreciated.
I think the image of my eyes is one for a revisit to remove the frown:lol:

Great idea for stare, I always enjoy close ups of eyes.

I really like this Iain.

I'm another one who noticed the way your daughters' eyes have picked up colours from both you and your wife.

Technically they're all lovely sharp shots and I like the way that you've kept the catchlights consistent all the way through.
But beyond the technical side of it, there's something really fascinating about this that keeps drawing me back for another look.

I thought I'd seen a similar take on a family shot earlier in your 52 and I've gone back for a look - it was the people week that I was thinking of.
I'm hoping that you'll get both of these printed. They'd make great additions to a family album.

I like that a lot...

Clever use of theme and you've managed to make it a really nice alternative family portrait. I think the mucking around and dissent in the ranks has helped the shot as all the eyes sparkle with a bit of mischief...well all except yours who have the look of dispair to them

Iain, a wonderful interpretation of the theme. Lovely and sharp, wonderful image.

I'm always late to these threads... :(

I think that's a cracking shot Iain. The eye colour was the first thing I noticed and how it blends down through the generations. Then I started looking for other signs of genetics, trying to work out ages... Spent a good long while looking at the shot.

Very creative, and very imaginative. Shame you had difficulties whipping them into line, but I understand.

Probably my favourite shot of the week so far.

Very very good.

Ian.

Sarah, thanks for looking and commenting so positively and in depth (as always). Yes, another family oriented choice for this weeks theme, I am pleased with how this turned out and will definately be printing these as you suggested. Thanks:)

Very nice look on the stare theme, well done

Jon, thanks for looking/commenting

Gary, thanks. I have had another go with my image, the frown is still there  I say they are laughter lines but Mrs Blakester tells me that nothing is that funny

John thank-you too for your positive comments, much appreciated.

Ian my thanks to you
Your positive comments are very welcome.
Ages? My wife and I are early 40's, daughters are 19 and 17.

A big thanks to all again, your taking the time to look is much appreciated.

Superb idea of putting your family together for your stare photo works really well

Well I am glad this week is over with, I finally managed an image for 'Peace'.
Posted below for your C&C as always.

Thanks for looking:)
Iain

That is really different.
Is it something you made for your shot this week, or does it have some other purpose?

Either way it works really well.
I love the colours in the peace symbol, they stand out brilliantly against the sky. I also like the little detail in the bracelet on her arm matching the big silver hoop.

Yes, its a home-made peace sign :D
I was wracking my brain all week for an idea and this is what I came up with.
I wanted colour in my image and this idea evolved. Again, I found this a difficult week but thats what its all about eh? challenging oneself.
Thanks again Sarah

I think this will turn out to be the most original Peace shot of the week. It's bright, well composed, colourful and spot on for the theme. The silver bracelet adds the finishing touch and the blue sky is just perfect. :)

A big  from me, Iain. :)

Jean

Wow Jean a big thanks from me for your kind comments:D
The blue sky was a bonus that showed itself very briefly today and I was lucky enough to be out shooting this image at the time. Better to be lucky than good ;)

10/10 for originality!!!!

Does it fly like an aerobie?

I haven't tried throwing it yet but can give it a go:D
It has served its purpose, so I can try launching it tomorrow:lol:

Great idea and you have done it really well. Lovely lighting and composition - full marks!

I think you should have used a smaller aperture, the DOF is a tiny bit too shallow.....

....having said that, the colours are lovely and the idea itself is first class!

I was originally in shade Damien, so had a small aperture to get as much light as I could, then the sun came out and the blue sky appeared. Without changing the settings, I took the image against the little bit of blue sky. In my haste, I forgot to change the aperture and the result is above.:D

Thanks for your comments.

Very original idea and well done for making it yourself. I like the colours against the sky.

Thanks Sue, I struggled all week, then this came to me and I am pleased how it turned out. Thanks to you too:)

A great idea Iain, and it works very well for the theme. The colours have come out really well and against the blue sky makes it even more so...

That peace sign is in fact, an inverted version of the norse rune for protection (sorry for the inane and utterly useless fact, my head is full of them ;))

Iain, what an original idea.

Totally shot for the theme, and it's really well done.

So... Did it fly in the end?

Ian.

Good take on the theme and a home made prop to make it original as well, very vibrant colours make it pop against the blue sky.

John, thanks for looking in again and commenting, oh and thanks too for your wee piece of trivia, we are here to learn aren't we?

Ian, thanks for your comments. I never launched it in the end :D, I thought I'd leave it intact in case I had to revisit it at any stage.

Oh I do like that! Nicely on theme, and fab execution

Well I have been working away from home this week in Scotland (God's country btw) and took my camera with me. I am still seeking inspiration for this weeks main theme of indulgence but did however manage to get something for Briony's alternative theme of 'close', This may need a wee bit of crowbarring but here is 'close to the waters edge'

I do have more of a passion for colour in my images so here is a colour version:

Below is an alternative b&w image as I liked the perspective of this image but was struggling against a blown sky.

C&C welcome as always.
Iain

Close to the water, close to the subject.... Meh, what does it matter :)

I definitely prefer the B&W version. There's a bit too much blue in the colour version for me, but the B&W has a good range of tones across the board.

Ian.

Ian, I thought about the blueness in the colour image and put it down to the time of the evening i captured the image. Below is an alternative colour image.
