Oi that is me. My daughter rides a horse, I'm on my mountain bike and our handsome hound is running around us freelywhat about a horse riding cyclist dog owner?

Fiesta should pay £98/yr Bentley £338/yr but the Bentley will pay over £450. Fiesta will pay nothing or £30. Hardly proportionate or fair.
Are we still talking about animalsI have been bitten by a dog quite a few times, got the scars to prove it![]()
seems fair to me charge the heavy emitters more to offset the charge on the small. has to beneficial to the small car owner over the rich person that can afford it.
This happened to me years ago when I was doing my paper round. Sheepdog outside a house came hurtling at me and broke skin tetanus and antibiotics. You might want to get one of these I take it when I'm walking the dog in case any other dogs attack him. Obviously I'm only carrying it to help me walk and to take photos as doubles up as a monopod. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002DOUX...1405885468&sr=1&keywords=tripod+walking+stick
rich persons car puts out more - we have already been over this.Carbon dioxide is carbon dioxide why should a poorer persons carbon dioxide be different to a rich persons one?

You've failed to address my points though?
Now of course this is nonsense as pre-2001 cars are taxed on engine size not CO2Not quite true
Poorer person can be stuck with an older vehicle with tired engine or larger old tired engine
Richer person may buy more expensive hybrid vehicles with engines with emmissions in same range for lower tax bands etc.
Examples include the new range of BMW vehicles which will cost £60K+ will low duty bands.
A neighbour of mine has a very old 2.8 Granada which is borderline on emmissions every year. His CO2 is due to him being too poor (or tight) to change car.
Yes I have been involved with newer technology vehicles including compressed natural gas as a fuel.
I am losing my original cynicism on calculating "cradle to the grave" CO2 aggregated totals as the use and reuse of recyclables in vehicle assembly increases.

There is a very little information available on what happened. The press release talked about contact with a police dog in her kitchen whilst searching her garden for a suspect Some new papers have turned that into a savage attack whilst other news papers stick to simply rehashing the press release.A 73 year old women died yesterday after being bitten by a police dog. It just goes to show that even in experienced hands things do go tragically wrong from time to time. The matter has been referred to the IPCC. This is yet another example of where the dog was not kept under control. This should never of happened.
electric cars are the future, as long as the electricity isn't generated by coal power station. Diesel is much more eco friendly than 'black death' producing nothing more but CO2, CO and soot.
Since old bangers have been mentioned - it is a real pet hate of mine (count black cabs in the same list). They tend to be mostly petrol, naturally aspirated, no-modern technology like injectors and badly worn. In other terms they vaporise and spit petrol back out. I can hardly think of anything much more polluting than that. Let's ban all out-of-date petrol cars and put their owners on buses. Problem solved. In fact put all americans on busses and switch off their big aircons. That will solve climate warming in an instant.
It is largely irrelevant how much CO2 a modern car produces per mile. One person drives 30k/pa, the other less that 3k. VED should be combined with fuel duty and not charged separately. Only that is fair.
P.S. How is the DOG?
So poor people should not be allowed cars! If you cannot afford at least a Prius, you must not drive! The hospital cleaner, or office cleaner, who struggles off to work at 4am in their rubbishy old Ford Escort and takes home the minimum wage that just about allows them to pay for that mode of transport must stop driving and be put on the bus ... except there aren't any buses running at 4am!!
What a typical environmentalist stance! Yes, I like the old canard that environmentalists are like watermelons; green on the outside - red on the inside - but of course it is the Marxism of the proper old party; some Marxists are more equal than others!! The little ugly people have to stop polluting with their old banger cars so the important beautiful people can fly to the Maldives for their holidays!!
A Telegraph reader posted a lovely comment recently in answer to a Christopher Booker article which fits here: "Environmentalism without hypocracy is like spaghetti bolognese without pasta!"
2001 diesel mondeo is probably less than £1000 if you look around. Any more reasons to drive petrol spitting bangers? If they spend less on fags and on booze they could afford far more even on min wage. I started with low salary yet somewhow managed to buy some gear and a set of wheels.
I am just trying to imagine a world where there are no dogs, horses, cows, wildlife larger than a rabbit, .....
..... sorry, my imagination is quite good but it refuses to believe that such a world is in anyway achievable or desirable by any but oddest of people.

And this is exactly where the environmentalists go wrong with their Eco transport. I live on top of a hill, and have three 4wd vehicles, and the GL class especially is huge and will go anywhere. I'm ready for the weather. Bring it on.2001 diesel mondeo is probably less than £1000 if you look around. Any more reasons to drive petrol spitting bangers? If you think climate warming is not an issue you are lucky to be in UK this year. Many people in US, China and Australia or Brazil experrienced otherwise... Don't worry it is coming our way too - extreme winters and really wet summers already plagued us recently.

I am just trying to imagine a world where there are no dogs, horses, cows, wildlife larger than a rabbit, cyclists, only shiny modern cars, nothing old and certainly none of those classic and vintage things.... what did I miss that has been covered in this thread?
oh and sorry, my imagination is quite good but it refuses to believe that such a world is in anyway achievable or desirable by any but oddest of people.
Sounds ace. I like the old cars, but the wildlife bit sounds spot on, and perfectly achievable if we all gunned up. Animals would only exist to be killed for meat, nothing more and be kept in enclosures so I didn't have to see them![]()
Dogs, fundamentally, cannot be trusted. This is why. Despite, what all the dog owners/fanatics say, they cannot be 100% accountable for their dogs actions. Hence the OP got bit, children get killed, this poor woman died. None of these were desired outcomes by the people in charge of these awful dogs. Bad/aggressive dogs, six feet under is the only choice. Sadly the police need dogs for sniffing out drugs etc, I wish there was a better way to rid this country of these awful things.
You realise that in that world, cats would rule and crap in the odd peoples' back gardens!!![]()

All edible so they're ok

Could we hunt them instead of foxes...![]()

To live in harmony with people, with animals, with land, one has to understand how to interact and stop being so arrogant and stop treating/approaching animals like they are human beings. Very small adaptions through can make a huge difference.
... as long as they are collectables ideally on public display and not being driven about on a daily basis
Many people also can't be trusted nor held 100% accountable. You may find the latter number is greater in fact. I don't think I need to point aknifefinger anywhere specifically.

No, the scum on the train back from Leeds, the drunken messes in Leeds on Saturday night indicate one thing. Too many people cannot be trusted with alcohol. Rationing to no more than 10 units/wk with no more than 5 units in any 24hr period needs done. Such a system could work, using an infrastructure like the Oyster card. If not, total prohibition. It would solve the really drunk driver problem too.
Vintage cars do such a small millage the polution they make is negligible, plus they are ace. If we banned dogs/cats the CO2 not generated by pets, could be offset by that of vintage cars. In my dream world it would be nice to hear an E type come past, rather than the squelch of Fidos crap under my foot.
