You're still missing the point that two channels serves the vast majority of the public. Very few people in the UK need 8 continuous hours of, say, handball or weightlifting.
The BBC will show - and switch between - the sports of main interest to the British public. So we'll still see ALL of the track cycling, for example.
I can't understand why you find it hard to see that for the most comprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games, Eurosport will be broadcaster to go to. Do you have something against Eurosport? As for the comment "Very few people in the UK need 8 continuous hours of, say, handball or weightlifting.", makes you wonder why the BBC invested so much in the Olympic red button service, even going to the expense of broadcasting HD feeds.
