Yes
The Paralympics start shortly, the BBCTV, after covering the Olympics, not only on BBC1.2.3 &4 and on the red button are covering how much of the Paralympics?....none,zero,zilch didly squat, instead they are being aired by Channel 4. Absolutley bloody appaling.

Rant over.

I'm sure this is exactly the same as 2012...

Olympics BBC
Paralympics C4

The channels only broadcast what they have the rights to.

Edit

Yes, C4 was the 2012 Paralympics broadcaster as well.

Why should the BBC show it?

As I understand it, the BBC were given the exclusives to the Olympics.
Commercial channels were left to battle it out for the rights to screen the Paralympics.
Channel 4 won.
No shame on the BBC whatsoever, fact they'd be penalised if they DID show it.
Talk about a righteously indignant overreaction! :D

As i understand it the BBC were not given the exclusivities, they had to tender for them, the BBC IMHO should have given at least some coverage to these athletes, but then again their viewing masses would rather a re-run of cash in the attic or antiques roadshow?

Yes, (they didn't win it per se) they were the "winners" in the fight (with Sky) for the exclusive rights to show the Olympics live.
On winning, they were not permitted to vie for the Paralympics as well.
Like ALL channels, they can show clips after the fact (eg news).
You're getting your knickers in a knot with no justification for it at all.

The BBC also lost the UK rights to the games from 2022 to Eurosport. However Eurosport have sub-let them to the BBC for the 2022 Winter Games and 2024 Summer Games, but in terms of quality coverage, Eurosport will be the place to go.

So why didn't you show the same upset in 2012? The same broadcasting arrangements were in place for London .

There's no logic in outrage...

I know my view will be less than popular, but I don't enjoy the Paralympics as a sporting spectacle, much the same as I don't enjoy watching womens football.

One of those things you have to be seen to like otherwise you risk condemnation, also find the commentators very patronising towards the competitors

Don't see why it should automatically be on BBC, same could be asked why the Tour DeFrance is on ITV4, an event we have won three times in the past four years.

It's on freeview if you want to watch it, what more can you ask?

I wouldn't condemn, no one should be expected to like everything.

I would disagree, I thought C4 did a really good job with 2012.

Is this a case of being outraged for outraged sake?

Channel 4 have the rights to show it, not the BBC. There is nothing bizarre about that, presumably Channel 4 wanted to pay more for it when the rights were tendered last time.

On second thoughts I will retract that comment and redirect it at those presenters who keep on about how the competitors have overcome their disabilities.

Apologies to the C4 team and thank you Dave for pointing it out

Sorry OP but in this day and age I would have thought you should be grateful that your not having to pay to watch the Paralympics.

Why do you believe it should only be the province of the BBC to show this?

As has been said I thought the channel 4 coverage in 2012 was quite good.

having watched some women's football, I think it is more watchable in some ways than the men's but ...let's not go there!

Roflmao this is one of the best dummy spit threads in ages. I bet the op is upset as he won't see Helens skirt :)

There is a fantastic lineup of presenters from C4. Don't see what the issue is with that.

My favourite thing about the C4 coverage is their advertising, both their billboard outside the Olympic village in 2012 that said "thanks for the warm-up" and their "meet the superhumans" adverts are brilliant.

Lets not forget that this is why we ended up with the last leg - great C4 show.
Back on again tonight, isn't it?

Back in 2012 we bought day tickets for the Paralympics, and have to say that the events we watched (wheelchair tennis, goalball, wheelchair basket ball, etc.) and the atmosphere of the fans was incredible. Enjoyed that day even more than the regular Olympic events we watched (volleyball, basketball).

I have just realised that the BBC no longer televises the test matches live - I am outraged beyond belief:mad:
But hey on the plus side, Strictly Come Dancing is starting soon :P

Complain to the England & Wales cricket board, since it was them that wanted home test matches removed from the list of protected events so Sky could pay them more money than the BBC were able to.

I think you might have missed the joke... And anyway Channel 4 were the last terrestrial rights holders.

I think the Paralympics is going to be a disaster from a spectating point of view, if they couldn't fill the stadiums for the Olympics it's going to look like a school football match playing in Wembley , the 2012 Paralympics were very well attended

Unless you're personally in the venue, why do you care?

Doubt it. BBC can still show it on two channels, switch between sports as it chooses and broadcast as many hours as it wants. Will also have superior commentators and pundits to Eurosport, I'm sure.

Will also have superior commentators and pundits to Eurosport,

As far as cricket is concerned, IMO, the Eurosport commentators and pundits are vastly superior to the BBc.

Thank f*** I no longer have to listen to Boycott and Blowers.

You're wrong. No more BBC red button. Eurosport's existing 2 channels plus the launch of a dedicated Olympics channel.
As for the automatic assumption that the BBC will have better commentators, well I just don't get it.

Wrong about what?

BBC will have two dedicated channels - like BBC1 and BBC4 this year. They'll be able to broadcast all day, and switch between events.

No red button, sure, but I bet 90%+ of viewing was on the main channels.

Details here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/12136309/Olympic-Games-will-remain-on-BBC-until-2024.html

Okay, "better" is subjective. Well, let's just say the familiar commentators/pundits will still be on BBC. Given that they'll be up against terrestrial channels, Eurosport UK would never get a big enough audience to poach them.

From the article you linked:

"The new contract will end the BBC’s ability to provide blanket coverage of the Olympics, which saw it provide 24 live streams for London 2012 and six for Sochi 2014.

It will now be restricted to two simultaneous live feeds from the Games from 2018 and other digital rights."

So, the place for the most comprehensive Olympics coverage will be Eurosport.

You're still missing the point that two channels serves the vast majority of the public. Very few people in the UK need 8 continuous hours of, say, handball or weightlifting.

The BBC will show - and switch between - the sports of main interest to the British public. So we'll still see ALL of the track cycling, for example.
