anyone else hate cyclists

On one 8 mile stretch of cycle track locally it seems that that a huge percentage of dog walkers who use it don't seem to have gone to school. Or at least they never learned to read if they did.

It states quite clearly at every entrance/exit that dogs are to be kept on leads but this simple task seems to be beyond the intelligence of the majority who use it.

I always slow down for both pedestrians and dog walkers, but I've stil had the misfortune to be bitten a few times. By the dogs that is not the owners. Now when the dog not on lead goes ffffing ballistic and starts growling and barking at me and the owner tells me not to worry he/she won't bite I get really p****d off and unclip the 2 foot length of hardwall plastic water pipe I carry on the crossbar and tell them if they don't get it on a lead I'm gonna break its head.

For some reason they think my response is unreasonable

I think your expectation of being able to break the head of an angry dog with plastic water pipe is unreasonable delusional

Well they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. And I've ate the pudding.

I've stayed away from this thread until now but do I hate cyclists? Yes, resoundingly! Has anything in this thread changed my mind? No, it's reinforced my scorn and disdain for them!

I was nearly ran over by one a pedestrian crossing this morning. He shouted at me for not walking quickly enough. Then a car decided to drive through as well. Absolute bunch of plonkers.

One of the "best" examples of a cyclist was a woman I saw on (The) City Road, London. Headphones on, oblivious to everything.

It's not only cylists that do that, yesterday driving down a gravelled woodland track to a couple of house there's a bloke walking along the middle of it,
I drove slowly up to him and he just stayed put, took 3 hooter blasts for him to almost jump into the trees when he realised realise I was there,
yep headphones on oblivious to everything. The diesel van isn't exactly the quietest of vehicles either

indeed, chances are the dog would have it out of your hand to play with.

That said if you hit my dog with a piece if hard wall water pipe (which wouldnt come up because i don't let her chase cyclists anyway) you'd swiftly be needing the services of a proctologist to retrieve your pipe for next time !

As someone who still have a bunch of bite marks on my leg from a dog attach when I was about 15 I reserve the right to defend myself (on bike or foot) if I feel it might happen again.

I've had a couple of instances recently, people, that is pedestrians, crossing "minor roads"
without looking, head down ear phones in, totally oblivious to their surrounds,
Walk straight out in front of me.
Darwin awards in waiting ;)
Lets have a "I hate pedestrians playing with phones and listening to music on them too, thread"

I've never understood that, of all all the dogs that I have heard about, chasing cyclists,
Have never got on the bike and ridden off, when they've caught them.

Same goes for chasing cars, they can't drive so why bother?.

mines a collie - she wants to round them up and pen them in a corner of the feild (this also applies to cars , deer, ducks, pheasants, cows, cats .... ) I don't let her though as ive no i dea what i'd do wit a feild full of cyclists

good luck with taking that line of reasoning with the police ... yes constable you see i'm carring this offensive weapon because i have a right to defend myself (actually in legalterms you only have a right to defend yourself if attacked ,not just because you think you might be)

I was knocked over by a cyclist when I was about 8 and took a large chunk of skin off my forearm and nose - I think i'll start carrying a two foot length of water pipe so i can whack any cyclist I feel might be going to colide with me :whistling:

i stuffed my head into the ground while cycling when i was young. i now carry a spade to defend myself :D

seriously though, id never condone attacking an animal unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (i.e self defence). FWIW theres more chance of some out of control animals ending up wrapped in spokes/sliced by a disk brake/perforated by a chainring/plain old run over. and even then it would be the owners fault.

I think you misunderstand my point - I don't carry a weapon (well, i carry a D-Lock?) and I certainly don't plan to go beat up a dog (!?). But if an aggressive dog come charging towards me Ill absolutely, without hesitation defend myself.

Id probably 1st throw my bike at it. Screw gambling with my limbs/life with an angry rottweiler.

my apogies i conflated you with the chap who apparently carries a 2ft length of hard wall pipe clipped to his cross bar for the purpose

To be honest if you are on a bike your best bet is to ride away fast - the average dog isnt going to keep pace with a bike for long

TO BE FAIR read the whole bloody thread ,its a joint foot and cycle path with no separation lines marked and when i next return i shall measure it as it seems it may contravene planning laws as to width ,which happens often in the wilds of the north west ,so yes i have every right to be walking there ,there are clearly marked bollards as well that let the LYCRISTS know its a joint /shared path to

well walk to one side then - can't tar all cyclists with the same brush or I'd be posting a thread about moron pedestrians ;)

HWC says:

"Cycle Routes and Other Facilities. Use cycle routes, advanced stop lines, cycle boxes and toucan crossings unless at the time it is unsafe to do so. Use of these facilities is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer."

I like to use the cycle boxes and move off slowly when drivers are stopped in them. Its childish I know but I have to entertain myself somehow when cycling on the road :(

The average cyclist is unlikely to be able to outpace a dog!

Field full of cyclists? Cheap dog food!

That wouldn't pass the test either. You always have to look out for the weaker participant in traffic. Sorry officer I was just going in my way, then this aggressive looking child came bouncing in my direction and got underneath my wheels and I sliced it apart with my disc brakes. Come on that is just silly and not much of a defense.

I did and there is no metion of there not being any seperation lines which is what there should be if there is a joint path. obviously an area run my morons.

Come to London! It's not "a couple of instances recently", it's running at about 50/50! And that's roughly the same reason I despise cyclists whether I'm driving on the road or walking on the pavement or in a park. Wherever you go in London, cyclists more than any other group, are the ones who haven't only lost any sense of roadcraft but have replaced it with an overweening sense of entitlement!

Even if they don't all threaten dogs!

By the way, here's a little psychological observation of cyclists in parks and open spaces. Pretty well all walkers smile and acknowledge other people. I've observed over the past few years that virtually no cyclists do! Presumably in their own minds they're either being Sir Chris Hoy or they think they're still drivng invincibly behind the glass of their cars!

In England Multiuse paths don't generally have seperation lines - the clue is in the name , its multi use , not twosingle uses running side by side (though as i said earlier by the OPs description this one isnt wide enough - they are supposed to be 3m min width)

Why is it always a fu****g Rottweiler?!?

I wouldnt be worried by a f*****g rotweiler - i'd imagine it will be a) satisfied , and b) have other things on its mind

apply your logic to car vs dog.

is the car automatically at fault for a dog running out in front of it? either way, you wouldnt let your dog get into that situation with a car so dont let your dog do it to a bike. i wont be held responsible to injuries to an out of control dog. as much as i love dogs.

simples.

As you state you own a collie I am surprised you say that, my old collie could quite easily keep up with me on a bike for a couple or hours or more
when I used to take him out with me as could my GSP, both bomb proof cross country and on quiet country roads

Thankfully we are still "out in the sticks" a little compared to Londinium. A place I aviod as much as possible these days TBH ;)

As you may remember we have "Redways" here.
The idea is you can transverse MK without crossing a road.
They are Multi use, The walkers hate the cyclists,
the cyclists hate the walkers, and everyone hates the dog walkers.
At least its "fair" :D

its the little terrier like buggers you have to watch.
Absolutely agree!
