Any knife/weapons collectors on here?

Check out the Andoer one on Amazon, £15.99 !!!

Nope but I will have shortly :D

I will await your opinion as its an obvious clone of the edge pro and a bargain price..one review said he preferred the lansky set but be interested to hear what you make of it.

Some of the bad reviews say the post is a bit loose and it's not the best made kit but at £16 compared to £200? I'm sure I can fix or work round any problems.

You'll need a smooth surface to stick it to.

One thing about that video, you couldn't do that with the newer version of the kit because it has rubber end pieces and wouldn't grip that close to the edge.

Will stick it to table or granite work top saver if needs be lol

Oh well that was short lived cant cope with the lansky..lol well too fiddly and rods are like bananas and stones hit the tip of the clamp on lower angle settings! Returning it to amazon. Not sure what to get now..like the edge pro but also like the look of this http://www.heinnie.com/kme-sharpening-system-diamond-stone was even toying getting the sharpmaker and the extra ultra fine rods but not sure I would see much improvement over the crock sticks tbh. Going to have a chat with Nick at HH tomorrow see what he recommends.

Link not working......... http://www.heinnie.com/kme-sharpening-system-diamond-stone..Was

Fixed the link and that was the one I was linking to..No bad reviews on HH but yeah few mixed reviews on the net

It looks a good setup but I am amazed at the prices folk want!

I don't think the bloke in the first review on HH was exactly happy though

Anyway, just had my offer on some Cr2O3 paste accepted, so will be doing my own wee trial of knife sharpening soon :p

I love the Puukos with the curly birch :)

Very impressive mate and nice looking knives

Aye, you've got a fair bit of talent there, Alf!

Spoke with Nick at HH today and he thoroughly recommends the spyderco sharpmaker..He said the crock sticks are also very good but the spyderco will get you a sharper knife. If you need to re profile then obviously a lansky or other rod system would be needed to create a new angle.Must admit the wicked edge pro pack would be nice to own but have to be realistic so may just get the sharpmaker. If nothing else at least I can do serrations and some tools on it.

40 or 30 degree angles?

Some people think crock sticks tend to round the tip of the blade, and it's easier to avoid this with the Sharpmaker's triangular stones. I've never used one and I don't know if this is true, but it might be worth thinking about if it bothers you?

I use Lansky and crock sticks, but I'm really thinking that it's time to go back to a single low tech system. Bench stones are pretty straightforward and can give you a razor edge, I just need to start practising again.

Your choice

Lansky only offer 20 and 25 degrees and most stuff I have read says between 15 and 25 degrees for knives, so I wonder why Sharpmaker have such an acute angle?

I would guess for kitchen knives?

I've never used the Sharpmaker but I gather the angles are 30 and 40 degrees inclusive, which will give you 15 or 20 degrees on each side. The Lansky crock stick angles are 20 and 25 degrees each side, which is probably the more traditional way of putting it. You can get it down to around 15 degrees by fastening a pen/pencil under the block with a rubber band and tilting it.

Thanks for the information, Martyn.

The crock sticks are 20 and 25 each side so 40 and 50 degrees.I bit the bullet and just ordered a spyderco sharpmaker as it can also do serrations and also has a few other applications that will be handy for me.Oh yeah and picked up my cold steel drop forged hunter from post office today and its a beauty!!!

The Andoer arrived today, it's bigger than I thought with the handle 18" long. Comes in a designed for it bag as you can see below with four stones a marker pen and microfibre cloth.

It builds in seconds, either slots together or folds out and the stones are very firmly gripped in place by a spring.

I gave my Magnum Bulldog a quick going over and I have to say I'm mostly impressed, I got a very sharp edge in no time. This system suffers from the same issue that the Lansky deluxe does though in that if you have a curved blade the angle of attack changes as the stone follows the curve, this changes the bevel angle slightly.
For £16 I'm very happy with it, if I'd paid £200 for the 'genuine' one I'd be a bit disappointed.

Looks a bargain mate my sharp maker arrived today but still at work at the mo so won't get to play until this evening.

Added to my Amazon wishlist! Typically I put an order in to them yesterday so it'll be a little while before I need anything again. Of course, the wait does mean I can see a more in depth review when you've used it a few more times, Hugh. It'll mainly be used for kitchen knives but I have a few box openers that could do with a decent edge putting back on them.
