Dean, I guess I was trying not to do the obvious drops and highspeed shots macro has become known for lately, the film shot was going to be black and white but I couldn't find a B&W negative showing the speed clearly so as it was colour I left it as such.

I was wondering how you were going to get speed into a macro
yup - I can see what you did there!

so which one is it to be?
or is it a diptych?

Thanks folks, good or bad it all helps ;)
Sarah, I could have done that but saying that if not careful I could end up with a water refraction or droplet every week and that is not what I really want to end up with. I am trying to use this to really push my photography and it isn't going to be easy I know. Now what idiot put up "Present" as a theme

Of the two Alby, I prefer the film edge. It doesn't really say speed as much as the ASA dial though... probably that's just me ;)... It just doesn't leap out at me like all your other stuff I'm afraid..

As for present... I don't know... but it's gonna be a pain... again ... ;)

Well this will have to do for the moment unless I can think of something better.

Present a present of a token of intent to marriage :D I haven't done this for over 25 years :D

Ah! that's very nicely done Alby, looks like a nice ring too. (Ruby & Diamonds?).

Please don't take this wrong way...
....Looking at size of the ring you could buy Portsmouth FC with it. :D

Nice idea and nice shot. Haven't a clue what I'm going to do yet!
It is a tough theme I think Dave

You could buy it twice over with that :D But would you want all that debt?

I try not to look at the current week's shots until I've done mine, but I'm already a week behind on your thread, and I just couildn't wait another week to see what you did in Week 5. :)

Week 5 Speed: Technically, both are spot on - and dammed clever on the theme. I prefer the film one marginally, just because I don't have to turn my head round to read the numbers. (Lazy, or what!) So, ok, it's not your usual stunning, amazing macro stuff, but they're both spot on.

Week 6 Present: I've had a peek at this, because I know what I'm doing for Present. It's a lovely, romantic take on the theme and I love the shot. (I presume she accepted, 25 years ago) :)

Thanks for peeking Jean, yes she did accept and I'm happy to say she understands me and my ways perfectly :D
I think the trouble with doing a 52 theme based comp is great and challenging at best but the added slant of doing it in macro isn't always going to be pretty or clever as I am finding. :D

Speed - takes me back!

Present - I shouldn't be looking as I haven't done mine yet, but I really like the composition and the B/W, though not the obvious choice, suits it very well.

Alby - some of these Macro shots are truly amazing........... sorry to be a bit late to join in on this, but the Street one is....... wow!

As for this weeks - fingers crossed she says yes!

Great Shot Alby, nice looking rocks aswell
Only cheapy stones Mate unfortunately :D

Thanks Nattelie ;)

I hope not we've been married 26 years  Thanks for looking ;)

That's a beautiful shot Alby (as usual). Spot on theme . . . and I'm amazed that you're managing to keep this going in macro

Some lovely little details there and very apt for Valentine's week. I love the little heart cut outs on the shoulders of the ring.

Yes I thought as it was a representation of a presentation of a present in the past I would go mono.

I was about to ask the same, so glad I spotted your reply.
I see your reasoning for it, but I'm not completely convinced that the B&W is working for me - it feels a little bit cold. If you wanted to go for the aged feel I think either a sepia tint or just a very desaturated version may have worked a bit better.

Before reading Sarah's post above, I was just about to ask if this would have worked better in colour. If those are rubies in there, I would have loved to have seen the colour of them.

Thanks for the input you two, I think I might give it a go later and post a colour one in the same post later and distress it a little.

It's excellent as we've come to expect Alby, and a very good take on the theme... As for the ruby... I can't help wondering what the colourific verison looks like as well.

Another lovely shot from you Alby

And it's great to find someone who understands you. Took me 3 goes

It's great that you are keeping the macro theme going. I posted my first macro shots last week and it's flippin hard.

Now you just need to find the 'little people' for this week :D

Thanks John, I may post one up later.

Thanks Bruja, it has been quite tough but I am enjoying the challenge strangely  I do have an idea for the next theme and it should be quite clever if it works, saying that it probably won't

Didn't have a clue-do so I went with these for the moment.

Who did it?

Hahaha! Excellent!
Could've kept the front base in, and the yellow tiles on the right out for me.
Great colours and composition though.
Made me smile! :-)

Thanks Steve, I do have some others with the more foreground but they just don't seem to look as good as this one to me, I know what you are saying though ;)

Missed your last few weeks Alby.

Very nice capture for Present - lots of sentiment in there.

Good take for People. Need to get my finger out and do something for this week!

Haha, I was wondering how you would get around 'people' in a macro fashion, but you've pulled it off :)

I like the lighting, it makes all the difference

Thanks Paul ;) this week is slipping away far too quickly, blink and it will be gone, have you any ideas yet what you are going to do?

Cheers Chris, I lit the scene with the 430 ex on one of the FITP's strobist 24" softboxes triggered by the 530ex II on the 350d and Sigma 50 f2.8 macro lens.

Nice one alby, another great macro addition with a nice twist to the theme
Hi Jon, I do have something else I want to try but not sure if I can get the shot so this is a banker :D
Very clever take on the theme but I don't really understand the starburst in the middle. What is it? It really makes a very nice photo.

Jenny
Hi Jenny, it is spotlighting the guilty one :D I just rendered it in for fun really :D

Hats off to you doing the 52 in macro great take on the theme you can tell its been a winner so far with all the posts you have been receiving. hoping to pick up a lot of tips from you when I attempt a few macro shots myself :)

Shaun

Great people shot - love the vivid colours and the use of DOF.

Phil

Well done mate:thumbs: The added "starburst" is a touch of genius!
