A Picture a day (My 365) . . . Made it to the End!

Ooops, missed a couple of pages :need embarrassed smiley:
Great portrait yesterday

Great - you have no inspiration and end up with a shot worthy of a frame and I have one of a closed rosebud

Very kind Nic :thankyou:

Thanks Cyclone, may have to try this kind of thing again :)

Hi there, finally got round to catching up :)

I love the harvest picture

7th August: Peeling Paint.

Drove around looking for inspiration tonight (must have been miles), ended up driving past an old abandoned boarded up church and on one side was this fantastic looking bright blue door with lots of peeling paint. Decided a close crop accentuated the details better than a complete view of the door. Taken with the 100-400mm zoom at 190mm.

Wooo!
I'm always on the lookout for this shot and never manage to see it.
The contrast between the blue and red is great

Yeah it's odd, me too, never seen one either until tonight, drove past 3 times trying to find somewhere to park. Then I watched peoples faces as they drove past, I could seem them saying, 'what an earth is that guy taking a photo of', must have looked quite strange, with my 100-400 zoom lens :geek:

Wow I likes that; great contrast and texture :)

It's something I've wanted to get a picture of too but all I seem to see is dull-coloured paint!

Thanks Kay, funny how we've all been searching for this kind of shot, could take a few more too ;)

My peeling paint shot was the most popular 365 image of the day on SmugMug, so happy with that :)

8th August: Warsash Marina.

More 2.0 aperture goodness, couple of channel mixer B&W layers applied (oh and Noiseware filter, only the best).

Great shots - the DOF on the marina shot almost has a tilt / shift feel to it. I went into town today to look for a 35mm 1.8 for my D40. Nothing in stock in Lucerne but I am off to Munich for a few days on Monday so I am sure that I will get lucky there.

Thanks Nic, that's the thing a love about this level of DoF, makes the eye concerntrate on the main subject.

Good luck with your search for the 35 ;)

Have you thought of a Sigma 30mm 1.4?? I'm looking at one as well..I really must stop lusting after things.

Nice DOF Julian!! I knew you couldn't make it 2 days without using the 1.4!!

I only have the 18 - 55 kit lens and a sigma 18 - 200. So what I want is a nice fast prime. The Nikon 35mm DX looks pretty tempting. I get confused with the conversion of the focal lengths when it comes to cropped sensors compared to full format. I was under the impression the 35 was more or less equivalent to the 50mm on a full format.

Yeah it is. If you can live without AF, get yourself a 50mm 1.8 D lens. It will open up a whole new world of DOF that you didn't know existed. I actually still use my 50mm with the d40 for detail shots while I'm on an urbex.

Looky Here! Almost a guarantee that they are all at 1.8.

Great recent shots Julian. I love the one of your daughter - it just has a certain something about it.

The blue door is nice too. I have a similar shot on my 365 somewhere - of a blue beach hut door!

Thanks Dave :)

I really like those kind of shots, will be looking out for more peeling paint type colourful doors ;)

9th August: An Englishman's home is his castle

Just a grab shot with the old 350D today, spotted this perilously perched tree house over hanging a canal.

Applied all sorts of processing to try and salvage this shot from the bin (as I've got nothing else to use for today). Double curves (inc. cross process, very slight). exposure adjustment, exposure adjustment, slight vignette and Noiseware filter applied. Nothing remarkable in that, but all this was done on a new final release version of Windows 7 64-bit (As a MSDN subscriber the download was made available to us on Thursday :) ). So far all my 32-bit apps have installed without issue and even installed 64-bit version of Photomatix. Oh and it's a dream to use compared to Vista, for example file copying, works as it should ;)

10th August: My daughter's favorite 'Car'

Just a macro filler shot tonight.

Thanks mate, I stood for about 5 minutes, without a clue of what to shoot, when all else fails, I raid my girl's playroom ;)

11th August: Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth

Early morning shot, completely bland overcast sky, lacking any punch. Typical the rest of the day was blue sky and white fluffy clouds, Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Thanks Lisa, not really happy with my shots lately, another inspiration dip (and lack of time).

12th August: Picture Painting Tractor & Bailer

'What an earth is that !?!?!?!?!?', I hear you say. All out of ideas on the way home, so with the 350D took a snap of a tractor and bailer, knew it would be a no good picture, so played and played in Photoshop to come up with this kiddie colourful painting monstrosity. Going to print it out for my girl's and see if they like it.
