A Picture a day (My 365) . . . Made it to the End!

13th July: Earl of Pembroke Statue, Bodleian Library, Oxford.

Went to buy some new furniture in Oxford today and also spent a couple of hours in the city center. Only had my little Ixus compact camera so tried to be as creative as possible with this shot.

Nice composition and processing on todays shot Julian.

I enjoy using 'limited' hardware sometimes as it forces you to think a little more about the shots and makes you work harder :D

Thanks Chris, totally agree, makes you think that bit harder, most of my shots were a bit lame, but it was hard to get in the right position even, as Oxford was so busy, so many Japanese and American tourists snapping away.

12th July: The 'SOSPAN-DAU' laying down shingle on the beach of South Hayling Island.

Another shot with the little Ixus compact, so again (like yesterday) was looking for a creative angle on a static object.

Wow that's pretty spectacular!
I've never seen anything like that before.

Nor have I (until today), that's about as close as I could get (the section beach was fenced off for obvious reasons).

Not sure I understand, but it was a genuine compliment:|

It's ok, I was only messing!! Originally it meant Oh, I love you for loving my new avatar!! Then "how you doin??" Then, "Does he really like it??" Then I had a wee think and stuck out my tongue just to be safe... Is that explained any better?? ;)

Yesterdays is fab, we just have plain sand on our beaches!! I wasn't even aware that they did this. I just thought the shingle was always there.

Nice :)

The low angle helps the shot and well done for using the Ixus and resisting the temptation to bring out the 'bug guns!' :D

I think they dredge it up and shot it back on the beach to replace the shingle that the sea erodes, must be a never ending job.

Agree with others, never seen it before or knew they did it! Great shot, thanks for teaching me something new today

Thanks Lisa, glad to be of service :)

Nice

Thanks Chris. Trying to spend a bit more quality time at the weekends with my family, as I'm not working from home anymore, so tend to leave the 'proper' camera at home. But the flip side is that now I work in Portsmouth, I have all these cool places to take pics from in the week (well that's the plan)

Like that shot Julian - different and interesting. Good DOF for a compact too.

Thanks Dave, not too bad for a point and shoot :)

13th July: Haslar Marina, Gosport and the Mary Mouse 2 lightship.

Another early morning shot before work, was taking pictures of other things, when I noticed the colourful flats around the marina and the bright green lightship, lucky I had my 100-400 zoom, so I could get I nice close crop.

Thanks Lisa, had no intention of photographing them, but the colours were so different form the normal bland tower block colours, I decided on using it as my shot of the day.

14th July: Now where did I park my boat . . . . . .

Just a few minutes away from the office is this marina at Port Solent, Portsmouth, great place to dream about what I would spend my lottery winnings on :)

Thanks nic, must have been very nice. We are currenty considering moving down to the coast too :)

Horizon is staright enough, what is confusing to someone who does not know the area is that land to the left is in fact a hill, so looks like a wonky horizon

Is that with the compact, tut :)

15th July: Apocalyptic Portsmouth

Wanted to take a nice landscape of Portsmouth with blue sky and white fluffy clouds from Portsdown Hill, but by lunch time the weather turned decidedly cloudy, took a couple of shots, but nothing special, so decided to spend the best part of an hour playing with all sorts of adjustments, stylize wind and lens flare filters in photoshop to end up with this rather different effect.

Looks very post-apocolyptic

You just need to superimpose a mushroom cloud on the horizon and you're all done :D

I know what you mean, but family days out (with a car full of kids bits, pushchairs, etc), means I need to take it somedays.
