A bit of fun - WORDLE. (NB, US spelling!) No spoilers please

I don't know if it's still the same but when I was at school I was taught that when rounding up or down 1-4 down 6-9 up and for 5 down if the number in front was even and up if odd.

I think I remeber that too — more a way of eliminating sample bias than achieving accuracy.

Since I can't even remember what today's word is, I'm bejiggled (nothing like bejazzled, I can assure everyone...) if I can remember what the criteria were for rounding up or down. o_O

However, in this case, I would say that the 99.5 should be rounded down to 99% since a 100% pass rate would indicate NO fail...

Absolutely, I’m sure I’ve had at least one fail which not reflected accurately in a 100% score regardless of how they applied the rounding rules.

There are all sorts of funny biases that can creep in when people are physically measuring things too.

5 for me. Blanked with the starter, xxxxy, xgxgg, wrong choice from the 2 I could see then went the right way to the ggggg.

Interesting - I hadn't heard the odd even thing. We were told 5 and above gets rounded up and otherwise it was rounded down (unless there was another significant digit). Standard form springs to mind. Will have to remind myself...

A phew for me today. I'm not sure there were any other options by the time I got to the end.

xYxxx
Yxxxx
xGxGG
xGxGG
xGxGG
GGGGG

Edit: I remembered standard form incorrectly.... that is when numbers are simplified by putting them to the power of 10.

Simple 3 today. unpromising start but after my second line I think there was only 1, maybe 2, possibles.
XXXBX BXXOB OOOOO

3 for me. an xxgxx start evolved into yxgxy and from the exclusions, I could only see the solution left.

A 4 today after blank starter 0, 3Y, 3G after which I could only think of a few words nearly went with the more topical word but didn't thankfully 5G.

3 for me today!

2Y
1G, 2Y
3G

Currently chilling at the Ayers Rock Resort.  38C outside which is a bit much really. Been too busy doing tourist stuff for Wordle but today was my chance to return briefly!

Fairly easy standard 4 today. Good start and better second. XBXOX XOXOO XOOOO left only maybe a couple of possibles and I picked correctly so OOOOO.

4 today.
A good first guess at remaining first letter.

A 3 today my best for a while, 1G 1Y, 3G 1Y effectively 4G giving me the first and last two letters, leaving only two words I could think of and one I would consider slang, so went for the other first 5G.

An interesting one for me today. For the first time ever, I played tactically and used completely different letters once I’d found 3 of them.
After two words, I could see that there were just too many possible options. In my next word I was able to eliminate 5 of them, so ended up with a 4. I could easily have failed if Id stuck with using some of the correct letters. I can now see the point of the HARD mode.
Looking again, if I’d gone with my best guess after 2 words, the elimination would have meant a 5 so maybe not that much worse.

YxxYx
YxxGG
xGxxx
GGGG

Struggling to think of your slang word. You’ll have to spill the beans tomorrow :ROFLMAO:

That's what PMs are for!

A Phew! for me today. yxxxg wasn't a bad start but I only managed to shift the y on the second guess - no other help (xyxxg). The third guess saw xgxgg as did the 4th, with it improving to an xgggg on the 5th. Luckily, I picked the correct one from 2 or 3 possibilities.

Nah! An easy 3!!! (OK, a lucky 3!!!)
xxyxx followed by a ggxxx with an all new starter. Since I had guesses to spare, I went left field and lucked into the solution!

Surprising standard 4 today after I seemed to be going nowhere by the second, BXBXX XBXBX, but XOOBX left few options so OOOOO :)
