Thanks guys( all of you)! I dont use the lens that often, but as its FX I stuck it on my new 800 (natch) played around and then WTF?? Looks like I should have known this!! :bonk: Always learning eh :)
I'm back....
Love the camera....
Anybody know why my Nikkor 105mm 2.8 G ED VR will only go to f3? The top panel will show f2.8 when first switched on...but in use I can not (in any PASM setting) get an aperture lower than f3...sometimes f3.2
I never had this problem on my d300s.
I can't...
Only initial problem so far...
Transferred a Kingston 8gb Compact Flash card from my 300s - re-formatted. Then got card Err message. Tried a couple of times same problem.
SD card was fine.
Put Kingston Compact Flash back in 300s - no issues.
Tried a Sandisc compact flash 4gb and that...
Well...after months of agonising ( and subtle wife persuading)my D800 arrived today (thank you WEX).
Strap on and battery charging - but I have to go out grrr!! Still will play tonight...now at page 1 of the manual - gulp!!
Fortunately doesn't look that different to my 300s...
I will...
Thanks for the feedback Cagney. Sounds like its a good one! The majority of my venues are small with poor or next to none lights! I never use flah personally and rely on my 85mm 1.8 (which is a banker with great results), a 35mm 1.8 (although thats a DX) and ocassionaly my 50mm 1.8G. ISO...
What type of gigs do you shoot Cagney? I am thinking of the 800 as an upgrade from my 300s.
I shoot a lot of small venue low light gigs - no flash, using 35mm, 50mm and 85mm Nikkor's. I was hoping the full frame and better ISO performance would be a big plus..but that is balanced by the...
Cheers Dale
Only problem I have found is the exorbitant price of 82mm filters!!! So may take your tip and just gtet one for my 16-70mm and make use of that..or a Cokin square filter for my wide angle.
Nothing cheap is there! But Ebay for rings is a good call!
Cheers
John
I am considering buying a ND Filter around the ND4/8 mark (or even higher).
My current lenses - and filter sizes - are as follows.
lens Filter
16-70 67mm
10-20 82mm
70-300 67mm
105 62mm
85 62mm
50 52mm
I know I could go the Cokin route with holders...
I use a 300s for bird photography (as well as bands and landscapes). I upgraded from the D80 about a year and a half ago.
I find it an excellent camera in all conditions. Because I am starting to do more wildlife I would love a Full Frame camera (but that is dreamland).
Honestly, I...
That shot looks okay to me ..and on the same camera (I use a 300s). I would only risk the converter in good light anyway. Just there are times when you are screaming for the subject (usually a titchy bird!) to fill your viewfinder a bit more!
