To be fair neither of the lenses you had available made it any easier for you. It`s the sort of shot where a dedicated macro comes into it`s own. You have to keep the shutter speed up and be around them a while to anticipate movement and get used to what they do for best chance of success.

On what basis do you judge it to be a "public place" - being a lace where the public go without admission / entry conditions does not make it legal for photography. What matters is whether there is a public right of way through that shopping area. A cheque on pillars etc at start of shopping...

Nice clean site but the slideshow feature is a little slow for me.

I just sold my Sigma 10-20 and agree it was a magical lens. Just went full frame and had to change it for a Nikon 16-35 f4 though as it just would not work well full frame
