Just finished updating my website with a new fresh look as I was getting pretty bored of the old one.

Basically my previous design was all black, with b/w landscape images used for the slideshow on the homepage. Now although I liked the style of it, I wanted something that would also show off my sports images and felt the all black and white design wasn't working.

I also got some business card printed at Moo.Com
and I wanted my site to tie in with this design a little more.

Anyway here it is www.philcarverphotography.com

I'd love to know what you think of the overall look of it. Also what is the speed of the slideshow too slow?

Cheers

other than that i like it mate :D clean layout, easy to navigate

Good Photium layout, take off the shop tab until you need it.

Add a bit of content of where you are to the homepage for SEO purposes & don't forget to update the meta tag data to suit.

Nice clean site but the slideshow feature is a little slow for me.

Another nice job Phil, wish I knew how to do that. I get totally confused by the 'SEO' and 'meta tag data' jargon. Keep up the good work. i've put your site in my favourites so will be visiting often.

Cheers Tom, I totally overlooked the fact I haven't put any info about myself. Will get that sorted, maybe with a pic as well.

Not sure what you mean about the meta tag data?

It's always tricky doing the "about me" bit... interesting to read you studied Fine Art, me to! got a 2:1 back in 2000.... anyway my point is that your website looks pro, the images on there look pro so you don't need to mention the word amateur...the sentance will flow fine as "I'm a very enthusiastic photographer..."

Cheers Annie, think i'll re-word that bit then
I too got a 2:1 back in 2002 :) Where did you study?

Love the business cards, really stunning.

Liked the website. What theme did you use? I looks at photium but did not come up with something that looked any good. Love the three images on homepage that change. Was it easy to do and then add sport, nature etc...

I would move about to nearer the front of the menu bar. My way would be about, gallery, pricing and contact.

Three things I feel need to be addressed. I thought it was a legal requirement to have an address somewhere on the site. You also have no phone number or email which is off putting to me. Finally on the about do you really need to describe kit, as Joe public will not know what a 1d is? I feel there should be more about you or how you work on there. Oh, and also, Is a links page needed?

Cheers Stuart some good tips there/ I see what you mean about the Links page.
I'm not sure if you do need an address on the website? I'm not a business or anything i'm just a keen amateur wanting to show my work. If I do put an address on where would you suggest I put it?

Re the 3 images on my homepage, I just just Illustrator to add the transparent bar and copy over the images. Really easy :)

Who is Stuart? :p

So the 3 nature images and bar is actually just one jpg?

Not sure about address. On the one hand you do charge and are liable for tax on earnings but not a registered business. I would add address on bottom of the pages or on contact page.

I like the look of the site a lot, nice and bright.

As for the address, I would think unless it's a business address you would be opening your home to every local thief in the area by publishing your address and equipment list.

If you feel it has to be on then get a PO Box number.

That's what I was kinda thinking. Not sure I want to advertise where I keep all my gear etc.

Yes nice site and good work. My only problem is the copyright graphic you've used. I totally appreciate that you need to protact your work but not to the point it totally spoils the images and you can't see them - B&W landscapes (all look nearly great) are actually ruined by the faded block. Could you not use something less obtrusive?

this came up on Yahoo answers about addresses "No, you should not put your address on your website. The best thing to do is to log in to your domain name control panel and add your real name and address, but then privacy protect your details. This will mean that for legal purposes you can be traced if necessary, but joe public will not have easy access to your info." I don't know how to do it but I'll need to do that I think!

I agree about the copyright you've used, it ruins amazing pictures, especially the landscapes. Personally I use smaller low res images on mine to avoid theft problems.... I have had work stolen on the net before :bang: I found small low res the only answer for me without compromising the work.

I agree with most of whats said above.

Nice, clean layout. It feels as though some space is wasted though, for example the prices page (on the right side)

Really love the look of the fine art framed print!

Nothing wrong with the copyright at all Phil.

Your not an art gallery, your gallery is there to sell photos, so long as the face is not covered so your clients can see who their buying all is well.

Ooops sorry Stuart, er I mean Simon :D

Yes the 3 images are a single JPEG.

I've now amended the price list to fill in the empty space on the right.

Also added a new pic and layout to my About page, plus updated my Contact page.

Hi Mark, I'm with you on the copyright strip as I do feel you can get a good sense of the images even with it on

Very professional and eye catching. Really love the site. Well done.
