Well I sold all my primes and macro as I wasnt using them, the only one i used all the time was my nikon 20mm for landscapes and walkabout town shots, so this is what i did with the cash :D :cool: :cuckoo:

Lush :)

Hope you enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying your 85mm :) I'm still just about refraining from licking it!

ive took a quick snap outside my work and im shocked at how sharp it is straight out of the camera! i think only my 14-24mm could come close to it,

im going to be intrigued as to which lens will win the battle for my heart.

The Nikon is so brilliant IQ and has a very useful range (i do like using it at 14mm) but its a huge beast for just walking around with it and im always scared stiff of knocking the front lens, which has happened a couple of times but luckily very lightly so no damage.

The zeiss is limited in range but around the 20mm suits me down to the ground and i can use a filter if im concerned of damage, expecially round towns when on my hols (got a B+W 82mm UV with the deal from robert white)

I have noticed it needs slightly more minus compensation than the other lenses but this is not tested yet as i have only played with it for 5 minutes. The construction is so good it feels like tank!! its built so well, even the hood feels solid, when you put it on the lens it feels like im fitting the lens to the camera its so solidly built, rather than clipping a bit of plastic to the lens (it makes sense to me anyway :razz:)

The build quality looks truly exceptional but I've never seen one in the flesh, is it?

Get some pictures uploaded ;)

yes it is built very very well mate, i will post a pic when io have a good one, unless you want a crappy one of the car sales next to my work LOL

Isn't that the £1,300 ish jobby? I was lusting over one of those in the mags recently. Looks beautifully built and can't wait to see some image examples.

That's a gorgeous piece of engineering. Glad to hear the first impressions of the images from it show that the optical engineering is equally good!

not a brilliant test but its all i could do before i went to the pub, when i go landscaping ill spot some proper pics up.

this is a fully manual shot comparison on a tripod between the zeiss and the nikon 14-24mm, i was right about the zeiss needing more minus exposure compensation it definitely lets more light in, i had to shoot at a slower shutter speed to get the nikon to match it.

All that's been applied is the appropriate sharpening

Not a lot in it, shows how good that nikon is, next time im looking at doing a proper landscape test

Not much in it at all there but 2 beautiful lenses. I`ve had to make do with the Nikon 16-35 f4 vr for my needs

It has made in japan written on it

Perfectly legitimate excuse!

Definitely a beautiful lens. The zeiss looks a little warmer. Was the white balance on auto or not?

Auto but I was using off camera flash so they where set to that

Any more image examples?

ive been playing but not taken it on a shoot yet, but rest assured i will ass soon a i do! ;)

Sod the camera and lens ;) Where did Bobas helmet come from!

Sorry for the OT post :)

Thanks for that very interesting link, love the stormtrooper helmet as well. A complete star wars nut myself, especially the expanded universe stuff, but I don't have the patience to do the great job you have done with that helmet. I thought it was off the shelf like that.

Nice work :thumbs:

Ok, well since this is a photography site i will start off with a photography reply;

Nice lens. :D

Now, can i come over and spend a few hours, maybe nights, days or weeks even drooling over your Star wars stuff, hahahah..

I myself have 3 lightsabers, Luke's from A new hope, Darth Vaders from Jedi, and of course Yoda.... ;)

Oh plus a bunch of other stuff, collectables, bla bla bla...

Regarding the OP, that is a serious bit of kit you have got, i would love to spend that amound of money on a lens but i think i would be scared to take it out.

Damn! I so want a 40mm Distagon for the blad but they're big bucks!

I have the 21mm Zeiss Biogon for the Contax G2. :love:

i have a fan made anh vader for trooping and a master replica for display, tbh the fan made one looks as good as the official one, i am part of the 501st legion who raise money for kids charities by attending events dressed up, its a good laugh tbh, got me doing some weird and wonderful stuff, like conducting the Nottingham philharmonic orchestra in front of full house, and appearing on stage at download, but other less high profile stuff like visiting the really sick kids at Sheffield hospital who cant leave their beds, the look on their faces was pretty cool.

and, BTW, did you sell the 300/4? I'd have been sorely tempted to buy it back...

<papa lazarou>NOOOOOO ITS MINE NOW DAVE!!!!!</papa lazarou> :razz::love::D

still havent been out with it but i did have a play :)
