i havent tried either, but my advice would be go to a store and try them both, see how they feel. the weight, the focus speed. and then compare the cost vs how much you want the one you like more.

i've had my D3 for 6 years now, and its never missed a beat. also i use the 85 1.4 a lot, and its a fantastic lens. you wont regret it!

things like this are pretty normal, it wont make the slightest bit of difference to your photos. so i wouldnt worry about it. as to the cost im not sure, i think it will depend on the lens. you can easily get a free quote from a camera repair place though.

good positioning and a reflector would be far better than using flash for this purpose.

my advice, travel as light as possible! ive travelled a lot recently and theres nothing more annoying than being bogged down by a heavy(ish) bag all day. If you just want to capture the great memories just use your phone camera, its what i ended up doing, haha. otherwise just bring the 16-50 2.8...

i wouldnt be bothered at all myself. i would have just shaken my head and felt embarrassed for him. then moved along. the first shot has real potential, just a shame the tree branches in the background intersect with the owl. great positioning with the light though!

you shot in raw, which is pretty much the whole point of being able to edit this kind of exposure well.

no mistakes, you just need to experiment with different kind of light. and different compositions. the main thing is just to have fun. you will learn the camera more and more as you go :)

i know that rally driving feel! i had a subaru, 20 mins in normal traffic, did it in 13 mins one night. a pretty big difference to say the least.

i have one little tip for you, just a simple one. but for me it makes the biggest difference. just enjoy it! simply that, just stick it on auto, check the photos every so often on the back, if you find the lighting conditions are making it over or underexposed just use a little +/-...

seems pretty normal if you take photos like that wide open with strong high to low contrast transitions. dont worry about it. no one will notice. seriously!

the orange glow is not added in post, it's just lens flare. :)
