You don't need a photographer for that

I bet it was after spending £3000 on a standard lens... LOL

We can't all use the bottom of Coke bottles and light the subject with our genius like you. You barely process as you get it right in camera, ok Ken Rockwell LOL.

I wouldn't mind if I actually said anywhere, ever, that I never process images. LOL

But life would be boring if we stuck to debating the facts. It's much more interesting if we can just make s*** up :p

Where's the fun in: Man with camera sometimes doesn't process shots if the job isn't important enough to justify it.

No-one is going to get anywhere pulling that apart.

I have to admit I've got quite a few RAW images that I haven't processed ...... Having said that when I downloaded, I flicked through and thought meh, I'll do it if need to sometime. These tend to be family days out and the like.

Part of the reason I've reverted back to JPEG, so much less hassle :p

Tbf I don't see a problem with that - I have lots of jobs which don't justify PP - like 3000 photos or so a year from tree safety surveys - but i shoot those in jpeg

However if a job is important enough to shoot in raw its important enough to process properly

SD card in the tank for an hour with minimal agitation.

Wow this post went a little off topic! I have to agree though I think the original question asked in the link shows a lack of understanding rather than a market that isn't being filled. Does that require a sarcastic response - not really maybe some questions to find out what the client wants and how that can be achieved to both parties satisfaction would be a better business model. Pro photographer is a hard enough gig as it is why would you want to aliinate potential clients??

When I got married I did ask for raw files and the whole album of prints. As much as I was happy with the result delivered my wife and I also loved editing few more we liked to have. Net: never a way to save money, but having the extra pictures in the package is reasonable

i'd be willing to bet they didnt provide every image they took - I've had clients say they want every image - they get 3-500 renumbered to run sequentially - no one but me sees the s*** ones

There used to be an outfit which sold marathon runners images of themselves running the marathon. They hired local photogs to whom they gave an SD card and a position on the route. Shoot as many individual runners as you can including the race number on the chest. Return the card full of JPEG images. We'll process the images, sort on race number, sell to the runners. Your name won't be mentioned so your reputation will be safe :-) IIRC it was £50 for an afternoon's work. So it was bump up jpeg vivid and sharpness and contrast settings, plus some DRO to lift dark facial shadows a bit. I did it twice & learned a lot about race shooting, including the existence of some previously unexplored features of my camera which were specially suited to such work. It would have been handy to have a camera with dual card slots -- I learn quite a lot about how to improve my shots by reviewing them in computer later.

probably you're right. I likely got a second and third choice but not th ewhole lot.
Still good to be able to edit and print few more on our own. My wife was quite keen on photoshop work during her pregnancy :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ever since I've started studying photography and shooting in raw, the impression I always got that raw will always be a bit flatter in colour and contrast or exposure, even if all settings are correct and the photographer did get everything right in camera. My experience than agreed with this notion, so I always make sure I adjust the exposure/colour/contrast where necessary.
My personal preference is also for more vibrant pictures than my raws usually give me, not always, but usually.
I would never give out photos that have not been adjusted to my 'tastes' in this way, so if someone asked me to give them the SD card I would kindly decline the assignment.

You give a client 500 images after editing? Jesus, how many are you taking? This what passes for photography these days? Machine gunning in order to get something usable?

Dude.. no one every sees anything you shoot... ever.

No idea why you think that. My raw files from all my cameras have the same colour and contrast as the JPEG files. They appear identical. The difference is when I come to process them, I've got a higher bit depth image with a greater ability to utilise the dynamic range less destructively. You need to check your camera, or raw processing software, as they should look the same if you've got nothing set in the camera to change anything.
