Only if you'd like to over-power/shut-out the ambient light.I think 1/2000 is a pretty standard requirement for dance or mid air flying (correct)?

As Cistron says, HSS is just for overpowering the ambient if you're overexposed @ your max sync speed. I was shooting 1/2000th because I was shooting straight into the sun over my subject's shoulder. Without 6 Nikon SBs, my subject would've just been a silhouette.Would it be good just to use YN speedlites for rim light (strip boxes) and have Canon/SB speedlites for key (because of the HSS)?
UPDATE: Six months in, there have been enough reports of dead or dodgy YN-560s that I cannot in good faith recommend this flash. IMO, if they would put $5 more into build quality and tweak the interface, they could have (or, could have had) a real winner.
The 560 is worth the extra for the zoom head, recycle time and much, much better optical slave.
Latest model with metal hot shoe.

No wonder there was a batch that didn't fire if it had a non metal hot shoe!![]()

The only tiny, does not matter, who cares, issue is that unlike a 580EX, it does not auto zoom when you pull the diffusion panel out.![]()
I have two and love them. Consistent, reliable and powerful, with fast recycle and great optical slaves.

Where did you purchase them from please. Does FITP stock them?
Thanks,

Cotswold Photo on eBay. They're more expensive, but Trevor guarantees them for 12 months. Well worth the extra.
Yes, in s2 mode.
I've got 3 in the post as we speak, also have a friend with a laser / sound speed trigger so can test them if you like

No problem,
If you could pm me what info and speeds you want tested as i have't seen/used a high speed shutter yet.
I will be attending my local camera club on Tuesday night so will let you know soon!
