December is just round the corner, and the dreaded Xmas food shop is looming. I really dread doing the last food shop for Xmas, trying to get the bread milk etc and a few little extra treats. All that panic dashing about grabbing everything, wonder why they still do it! As I am sure they know by now, shops are open shortly after Xmas anyway. Not like the old days when shops shut down for days upon days, there is always a good few local shops that are still open any way.

I am definitely doing a small Xmas shop this year, no silly hoarding 8 x 6 bottles of Milk, and no masses of bread crammed into the freezer. Just enough to last a few days :)

Lidl three bird roast tomorrow, job done :) There's really no point going silly over the christmas shop, the shops themselves are really only shut for one day.

A million times this.
I swear people crap out their brains in the run up to Christmas.

On a lighter note, Sainsbury in sittingbourne sometimes put racks of fresh veg outside their front doors after closing on Christmas eve with a note saying "free...help yourself". :-)

Bake my own bread so that's not a problem, just the basics for xmas dinner and cold meats etc boxing day as it now seems I have a house full with
dogs and my kids (so much for a quiet xmas)
Only last minute shopping will be fresh on the stalk sprouts I hate them but my daughter loves them

I have a wife for that sort of pish. Done.

Supermarkets at Christmas are more akin to looting than shopping! What is it with bread? How much can you go through in 2 days FFS! I've seen people with 2nd trolleys stacked high with loaves of bread. Their houses must be rammed with people eating nothing but sandwiches every half hour for the duration!

Ocado, innit?

We are probably conditioned to think Bread is the staple diet, I mean who actually scoffs Bread like they used too ? I would be more concerned about having enough Chocolates over Xmas, sod the Bread and the fruit :)

I'm pretty sure Bulk Powders have emailed me every 90 seconds for the past week. It's possible they have a deal on.
I get mine from MyProtien. I always end up ordering during the week and they always seem to have offers on over the weekend. I don't look at my email account enough to get the reminders. :(

Wow. I didn't know anybody ever paid full price :D

Don't really want a Turkey this Xmas, prefer a nice piece of Beef instead. But I suppose I will have to keep the missus happy, will probably get a small Turkey Crown.

Suppose I will have to start making an Xmas food list soon, what to put on and what to leave off..

Only ever tried home food deliveries a few times, something went wrong on a few occasions missed items or different alternatives. Or items very close to their sell by date, don't think I would risk an Xmas food delivery. Imagine if things were missing or wrong items, a last mad dash to pick them up..

Like the rest of the year Mr Ocado will be bringing the main supplies and wiill use the local supermarket nearer the time for some fresh stuff

We'll probably do a quick shop on commercialmas eve - meaning that I'll probably slide into Sainsbury's after dropping Mrs Nod down to town for her early morning class. Just a basic bread and milk shop since we're going out for lunch on the 25th and the shops will be open again on the 26th. If I can BA to drive through the car par after dropping Mrs Nod down to her evening class, I might lip in again and see what they're knocking out super cheap before the end of the world.

On the home deliveries. They were a life saver when I was ill. BUT, like John, we got far more short dated stuff and either odd substitutions or items simply left out. Besides, I'm weird - I actually enjoy shopping for food! Choosing ingredients is all part of the eating process and spotting a particularly attractive ingredient can result in a menu change. My biggest gripe with the deliveries is that the drivers are incapable of parking while delivering, preferring to abandon their trucks in the middle of (often too narrow to pass) roads while they offload the goods at one house before driving 20 yards up the road and repeating the process. Get Tescos going one way and Asda the other and neither will want to reverse.

Most seem to forget the shops are open the next day after Xmas day, the way they stuff the trolleys, as though its shut down for a week....

Not everyone wants to go out again on boxing day

Even if you don't step foot out of the house for a few days, unless you've found yourself with a battalion of visitors, there's no reason for the kind of madness shopping seen on 23/24 Dec.
Half a dozen loaves of bread, three gallons of milk, 47 bananas and a kumkwat.....ridiculous

Definitely shopping being delivered here, with no car there is no way I'm battling the supermarkets, although I'm sure I'll pick up little bits here and there as I do prefer to see what I'm buying.

As for quantity, won't be mahoosive amounts as it's just me and the kids, possibly just me at times, no visitors or such like.

Well people manage a weekly shop, or a week-end shop every other day of the year, why not "this" one?

Haha not a bad idea... Everyone can bring a bottle and paintbrush :D
You expect people to paint after they've been at the bottle?

/ you're braver than I thought :D

At least they brought their own bottle and T wouldn't pay them. A colleague of mine has 'professional' builders in, and instead of the usual coffee/tea he provided, he gave them beers, then complained they did a rubbish job...Duh

Think I will get a small Turkey Crown, a piece of Beef and an Xmas Pudding and a few mince pies. Not sure if I will bother with all the trimmings yet. No idea how we manage it, but we always seem to have tubs and tubs of cream that seems to get pushed to the back of the fridge!

Ooo that sounds interesting I'd better check that out (y)

The only way to do it IMO (y)

Had the three bird roast to go with the crown last year, very nice.

This year they seem to have dropped it in favour of the five bird roast? and if you get the Lidl Christmas brochure, there's a 25% discount coupon on this until December 6th, we are going to grab one tomorrow.

I saw the five today but decided it would just be greedy, so I went for the four :)
