My television had started to change changed and switch itself on and off.....is it possible one of my neighbours my have a remote same as mine.......

Nope. Either your batteries are going dead. Somthings been spilt on the remote.

Or

Your using energy saving lightbulbs or florescent strip lights.

Or????????

Edit: We had a TV come into us for repair. It sat on the test bench for 3 weeks without showing the fault. We gave it back to the customer. Next morning shes on the phone saying its doing it again. She turns it on and the TV changes to channel 4 and the volume goes to max.

We got to her house early and she showed us exactly what she does.

She turns the TV on then goes into the kitchen switching on the strip light. TV changes channel and volume goes to max.....lol

No.
Clearly the television is posessed by demons.

Changed battery and no lights on and it is still switching channels every so often...even took batteries out totally.......if it is a neighbour I will be able to see if he watches porn..:D

It wont be a neighbour. Unless he's pointing it through your window.

Put some insulation tape over the IR receiver on the TV and see if it still does it.

but won't you need to be subscribed to the same channels before you can see what he watches ???

Apparently you can get a few free minutes, so I have been told.......

The experiment has begun....batteries out of remote and tape over ir.

That's weird! i think Ruth has the most likely answer:D

I actually did this myself last night. My wife was watching one of 'her programs' and I kept switching it over using the sky + app :0)

Pretty sure I've told this story before but anyway.. We bought a b and q cordless door bell. On these you decide which chime you want via the button not the actual ringer. Anyway every now and then it would go off with a different chime to what we'd set. After getting fed up with answering the door to the invisible man we decided that a neighbour must have a bell that works on the same channel, so it went back and we bought a wire one with a proper bell in it rather than a cheesey tune.

Right...experiment results........no channel changing with ir covered... so I have no uncovered ir.and I have Mrs A mobile in my hand......almost immediately channel changes to tv guide and scrolls down to coronation street and hours to channel .....ffs

take batteries from remote, make sure its not that shorting out in some way

Batteries are out of remote already.....going to go round to new neighbours and ask if they have a new tv......maybe they will give new a new year drink also:D

Is it a Samsung telly and mobile? I downloaded an app onto my Samsung tablet and can use that as a remote for the telly. Unfortunately it sometimes seems to think it has been tapped when I move my finger over the tablet.

Yep....I don't have app installed

I think what with the amount of repeat-type channels doing the rounds, the telly got bored of it all and has found a way to amuse itself by playing tricks on you.

Actually, I have just reminded myself of these doodles I did a couple of years ago . . .

This might be of use. I bought a stereo in the UK and took it to spain only to find that the remotes for the tv and stereo are on the same wave length. Have look at other remotes if you have them as you have said it doesn't happen if the tv it is covered

Remotes can send out spurious signals if the Batts are getting low.
So its worth checking the batts in other devices.

We bought a Samsung TV in June.
Ever since it's had a habit of switching itself off at random. When it is switched back on the brightness is up and down like a bride's nightie until we switch it off ourselves and then back on again. It's worse on iPlayer where it also pixellates, then freezes, then won't restart until we've been back to the main channels, then it works with no sound!
Bought from John Lewis, and we've had men round to it. Apparently there are only three bits inside a modern TV. A power board, a control board and the screen. No repairs to do, just replace and throw away.
We've had the power board replaced which made things worse.
John Lewis are coming back on Monday with a replacement - a curved screen TV at no extra cost - yippeee.
My geek neighbour tells me that power control functions on Samsung TVs are a known problem.

Used to be a John lewis repair agent many moons ago.

Customer service at its best

That was then. Now they contract the work out to Martin Dawes.
Can't fault John Lewis themselves - that's why we bought from them.

That's just to lull you into the false impression that all's well < very evil grin >

Neighbours have gone out.

Nope They are still next door but I have invited them round for an afternoon Pimms............ so I will have my telly on in the bbackground and see if any further strange going ons happen

Maybe upon leaving, a neighbour (hopefully a very short woman) will declare "The house is clean".

But we know different ;)

The Pimms was very nice and the body t.v. stated playing silly buggers again....even my German neighbours made reference to it......went from tv to avoid blue screen......up am going to spend the rest of the afternoon switching on and off other appliances......see if it makes a difference

I believe the technical term is FUBAR.
