Would you take a re-test every 5years?

Should a re-test every 5 years be introduced ?

Also, not sure how they'd implement it.
DSA can't keep up with the demand for new driver tests as it is, let alone adding millions of retests to the equasion.
They could outsource it = create jobs :)

Am sure most would rather see public money spent on more nurses or paying off our deficit!

Makes more sense.

I don't know the statistics, but it seems probable that bad drivers are more likely to be stopped and possibly charged with driving offences. therefore it might make more sense to impose more retests on offenders rather than a blanket every five year test for everyone.

Steve.

The Police have been very lazy recently concentrating on Speed and ignoring other offences. I also despite living in SE London , hardly see any patrol cars around.

I lived in London 25 years ago, and TBH the best drivers in the world used to be London drivers - almost everyone would know how large their car was, how quickly it could accelerate and stop, how to drive it round corners without hitting stuff and how to park the thing in a small space. Maybe it's changed, but having driven across lots of Europe and some of North America, pretty much everywhere else the standard of driving has been worse. This has nothing to do with legality or obedience to the highway code, so much as ability to handle a vehicle, which, as has already been noted, is quite different.

Used to be. On the road I live on , there is not a day gone by without someone loosing their mirror or getting their bumper smashed or the car scratched, cats get ran over quite often too.
I also drive quite a bit in EU and can say driving is on par with the UK. ( apart from the motorways, no lane hoggers there )

Steve.

That's exactly what they should be doing
