Any chance it was the last one in stock?
It's a 40D body only, so that might be a possibility, I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Sorry, but I don't agree that Canons do not come in sealed boxes.
I have bought both a 5D and a 5D MkII new in the last 12 months and both were received in factory sealed boxes, the MkII was only 10 days ago and I remember it very well.

It does happen though, I've known dealers who used to disconnect the speedo cable and run the cars on trade plates, give them a spruce up and put them back on the lot.
A few years back Mercedes even sent out an official document to their dealers with details of how to remove the "delivery" mileage from it's cars![]()
Quite a lot of new cars have that facility. I think as long as the milage on some (Vw's?) is under 35 it can be reset to 0 twice.
It its 70 shots I wouldn't be concerned. If it was 700 I would.

I got my Sigma 105 Macro from Jessops... when I looked at the cap said Tamron!
Well here is the outcome if anyone is interested. I took the camera back to tha shop and asked for an exchange saying it had been used as a diaplay model. The first question they asked was 'How did I know it had been used for that', I pulled out their memory card and that was the end of that, and to be fair they did swap it.
That's not quite the end of the story, they didn't have any 40D bodies left, so what they did was open up a new lens kit box and then swap the cameras over! needless to say they've lost me as a customer.
70 pics is a lot for a new camera, it's clearly been used more than once, possibly a member of staff has taken it home and used it, maybe just a test or maybe used for a job, take it back and ask for the manager (he might not know whats happening) and demand a sealed one, at least you know the score with that, get some compensation for your time and trouble as well. Did you read the update?![]()

It was on my 40D. Surely that has other implications somewhere - certainly would if it camer to cashback.Isn't the camera bar-code on the box as well??
Why?Although having that many shots on the card would imply otherwise.

imply: to indicate or suggest without being explicitly statedWhy?
It could be that the camera was used for a few minutes by one customer who just rattled off 70 frames. It could be that the memory card was previously used by the shop in other cameras and nobody thought to format it. Or it might even have been brought in by a customer and they forgot to take it away with them.
RichardC27, I can understand why you're annoyed. I bought my 40d from Jessops, but the only one we had left was a display model. I wanted a brand new one to play with, despite the fact I knew 100% it had only been on the shelf for a few days and had barely been handled, so I can totally understand where you're coming from. I however accepted that we don't have an unlimited stock and either we sell a display one or i wait for a few days until it comes in.
Bravo to foodpoison for a thoughtful and intelligent reply.

I'll second that - a thorough and balanced reply.
I wish you worked in my local Jessops in Chester
We got him a sealed one, put it on the counter and he asked if we could open the box to show him what was inside. We explained that we would have to break the seal to show him, and we made sure he was certain he wanted the camera. We opened the box and showed him everything, repackaged everything and closed the box.
After my colleague went to grab a memory card off the shelf for the sale, the guy said "this box is opened, I want a new one"
my colleague said "but sir, you asked me to open it to show you what was inside"
and the guy said "no i didn't, it's not new. give me a discount."
Don't forget to let us know what happens.
foodpoison, it's not the individual staff I blame, it's the company as a whole. My girlfriend works on the customer service desk for a very large supermarket chain to pay her way through uni, and I totally appreciate the frustrations staff face. I did buy a second hand lens while I was in there, so it wasn't a completely bad experience.![]()
yeh please
lol, looks like it's a recurring theme, it was that store that's caused me the problem.
