woof woof week 27 - Dappled Light.

It is like the light at the end of the tunnel! Don't follow the light!!! Seriously it does look a challenging dynamic range, but artistically I think it works perfectly as it draws your eye in.

That works well Alan. Those leading lines do really take you into the pic and make you want to cross the bridge and explore.

Works for me. Wonder what's over the bridge?

In reality just more of the same... a rough path with trees and bushes on either side but of course once you pass into the light there's no guarantee you'll be on that path, you could be somewhere else...

:D

Thanks Pete.

The lines really are a little oasis and when I'm on the path it seems like another world just yards from home. Driving to the high street or retail park can't really compare :D

Thanks.

I've been trying to take a picture of this I'm happy with for some time, I took this one yesterday, but it's difficult as the light is often harsh and the sky easy to blow. I think I need a camera with about a zillion stops of dynamic range :D

I have a bit of a thing about transitions and bridges are in that as they link and allow movement from one place to another so I have a lot of pictures of them. Sometimes I over think things :D

It's a very nice image. I think that we (humans!) respond very well to any image that shows a path disappearing out of sight - it piques our interest.

I completely agree with your "dynamic range" comments. I am amazed that many flagship cameras use 12 bit detectors. I've done a bit of astrophotography with 16 bit cameras, and I find it incredibly frustrating that our cameras are so poor in this regard.

Some of my photos on the local canal have exactly the same issue that you describe. Trying to photograph a Great Crested Grebe is almost impossible on a sunny day, and quite pointless on a cloudy day!

Thanks for commenting Donal and all.

My "best" camera is my aging Sony A7 but looking at the bench mark tests DR doesn't seem to have moved forward at all really but on the other hand... in some shots the camera seems able to record some details I can't see by eye. For example sometimes when there's a lot of glare and I'm squinting when I see the final picture birds off in the distant glare obscured to me sky are visible. Image quality may have inched forward in other regards than DR though, higher ISO and colour depth too, maybe.

One the whole I'm glad I posted this picture as even though I'm not really 100% happy with it I've learned that I'm not not the only one here consciously taking pictures of paths, crossroads, bridges seeing them as intriguing transition places.

Good use of camera height and focal length here. This type of shot is harder than it looks.

You're too kind Peter, but thank you for looking and for your kind words :D

Just for information... The picture was taken with a 28mm equivalent lens, actually it was taken with a Micro Four Thirds camera and a 14mm f2.5.

I bought some cheap garden lamps and they were lovely but a bit of a failure as water got in and spoiled the solar sell. I got around that by trying to seal the top solar unit with super glue and putting another cell and lights unit inside and I got another couple of years out of them. But then the metal started to degrade and the hinges rotted though and they fell open... I do still like the look of them and I like the glass panels so I haven't been able to throw them out and instead three stand here looking aged whilst one remains working and proudly mounted on the wall :D

So, without further waffle.... My Metal entry is rusting lamps :D

Really like the patina on the metal. I like how you're used the band of light to bring out the bee in the middle lantern.

Thanks.

It took me ages to take that shot and get the framing as I wanted it without moving anything, the lamp bubble in the top corner, the dogs, the buttercups and waiting for the light to be right on the metal lamps, not cropping the bottom corner of the middle lamp, including the edge of the fence, the bush and sky. As I was using a 35mm I was just inches from the lamps and getting the composition right came down to millimetres and tiny movements and my knees were hurting :D

LOL, made me laugh. Your reply to my comments on your last shot referred to you "overthinking" things...:p

Well composed on them shot Alan.

Thanks Peter. I did take time to frame it how I wanted and my knees did know it and hurt but that's my fault for wearing shorts :D

I really like the low viewpoint. The composition and colours Alan. Nicely done (y)

Thanks Pete. I spent ages getting the framing I wanted and waiting for the light to be right and my knees hurt but it was just about worth it :D

This may not be very original but here it is, and there's no need to worry as although there's a lot here we only eat a little and not every day so things in here last a long time. Honest :D

My favourite is the dark chocolate Bounty. The pinnacle and all that's best in western culture :D

Looks like a cavity-in-waiting, but a treasure for your tastebuds

It could be but we only eat a square or two of chocolate or a sweety or two every coupe of days and we do brush our teeth :D

Very surprised not to see a collection of vintage/legacy lenses :)

Haha!

I think even those can't displace Bounty bars, fruit chews and mints but just for you... some camera and lens porn...

That's the Nikon 50mm f1.8 pancake lens, the more desirable and maybe rarer closer focusing one.

Gosh that looks like a very naughty cupboard! Wholenut is my favourite - although strangely I'm off sweet things at the moment and heavily into salty things - oh dear - I don't think either is good!!... for your health I mean!!

We eat crisps but again not a lot. It takes three of four days or maybe a week to finish a bag of Sensations Thai sweet chilli but we might have it a fortnight before we open it :D Our sweet treats often go out of date and then Mrs WW wont touch them, but I will :D

Normally I just never buy crisps because I find them too tempting. However I have been craving salty foods after my recent spell in hospital. I also noticed that my sodium levels had dropped below normal in my blood tests, so I confess this has been the best excuse ever and I am getting through quite a few bags of them!! :D No doubt once recovered I shall have to address the situation and start stepping on the scales.

Real treasure.

My fathers medals.

Who owned this is lost to time. The stamp indicates it's a little over 100 years old. No one else in the family seemed interested so I got it. I think it's beautiful and it works.

Beyond treasure.

In another life, time with these two.

And in this life, time with this one.

I tell you something you may not like :D

I can eat anything and in fact I seem to have to force feed myself to maintain weigh and if I stop I drop about 1st from what I am now. Also, whenever I have a medical everything is spot on, apparently I'm the perfect specimen which of course amazes Mrs WW no end :D

You must have a fast metabolism - lucky, I think. Normally I don’t worry too much, but I do try and eat healthily so wouldn’t usually buy crisps and chocolate. I did step on the scales this morning and no surprise, I have gained, but I am healing, so that comes first. I’m sure it will shift once normal life returns.

Treasure - lots of lovely shots. I think the medals are very special.

Those medals are indeed real treasure Alan. The food treasure looks very tempting…..

I like the one you’ve chosen Alan, A good tight and colourful composition. The medals are a very special treasure too. :)

I really like the busyness of the sweeties shot, lot's going on and really vibrant.

Thanks guys.

When I read the theme the sweety drawer was the first thing I thought of but the kitchen and the sweety drawer is a bit gloomy so I wated for some decent natural light.

A lovely set of varying treasure pics. I don't have a sweet tooth but always have a bar of dark chocolate in the fridge for the "just need" moments.

Thank you Helen.

I had a dark chocolate Bounty yesterday and I think that was the first and will possibly be the last of the week so this lot will last a while. As we only eat a little and not too often much of out stuff goes out of date but it's still delicious :D

When I read that "solid" was the subject this week the first thing that popped into my mind was...

"And now it's solid
Solid as a rock
That's what this love is
That's what we've got, oh"

TBH I don't really like the song as it's done but I do like the lyrics and if anyone doesn't know them I think they are well worth googling and reading.

The last few years have been extremely difficult for me. I turned to my family for help and they turned against me and I lost them all. All but my mam and my wife. The first picture I thought of was this one but then I remembered I didn't take it :D

I would have taken a holding hands across a table shot but as she's away at the moment I can't. I have my little shelf on which are cards she's given me and a framed picture I took with my Sony A7 and 85mm f1.8 (I put that in for the geeks. hahah) and I see this shelf as I drift off to sleep and again when I wake in the morning. So, here it is...

A spot-on shot Alan, and a poignant story. I can relate to struggles with family and having a solid relationship to depend on to get you through.
