Women's right to vote - waste of time?

Yes
Quite a few years ago as students we watched a film about the 'right to vote'. Some aristocratic knob telling us that women shouldn't be allowed to vote as they know nothing about politics, so their vote was a waste of time.

At the time we (pre-p.c.) lot were all suitably disgusted by this idea - but now 20 years on, I see he missed the point...

It's not just women who should be denied the 'vote' but all plebs, grockles, thickies, dumbo's, easily-won-over-voters, the electoral majority, etc.

In fact it's now clear that only those of a certain I.Q. AND interested in politics should be allowed to vote at all - this is not a class distinction, some poor people would be allowed to vote for us all just as many rich people would be denied the vote too.

What do you think? Pick a 'brainy' and 'interested' person near you to have the vote on your behalf, saves you the worry of wondering what elections are all about; you won't even have to go to some local school and be harrased on the way in for an opinion (which you probably don't have anyway, as you're just voting 'Red' or 'Blue' as it's a) fashionable or b) your Dad did).

Think of the £millions saved in campaigning, and all those useless ballot papers where thickies tick more than one box; we wouldn't have politicians kissing babies for the parental vote - in fact, it'd hardly make the news

Best of all... most of our women wouldn't have to leave the kitchen or stop ironing even for a moment, while our blokes supped beer down the pub talking about football, darts, or other worthwhile topics

Political bliss - the 'right to vote' only very clever people need apply

Your thoughts?

duhhh.. I take photos.. dont do big wurds

Who decides whos thick and who isn't?

I know. We'll have a vote on it.

NB: I've a PHD in submicron silicon verification.

Maybe there's some method in DiddyDaves madness..........

For the last ten+ years come election day (be it local/European/General) I've been Presiding Officer at one of the larger polling stations in our region (the one which is the constituency of the Councils leader) it has a large number of voters on the electrol register, which is shown by usually having three to four polling clerks working the station for me.

Now with so much time to kill and having to tot up all the figures at the end of the day its become more and more apparent whats happening on polling days.

By far and away the majority of people who come in are pensioners (just before or after a trip to the post office) then there is the steady trickle of mums with there bairn's in the pushchairs:baby: . There's a regular showing of people turning up to vote during (obvious) working hours which at a good guess are those who are either having the day off to vote (doubt it) or unemployed (my guess):bat: . The usual time to get a small infux of workers is 5:00 o'clock till 6:00 whilst on there way home:geek: , which just leaves the people who come in latter on either o there way to a pub or on there way home:woot: .

So its not taking a rocket scientist to start thinking that this countries government is being elected in the majority by:

The over 65's
The housewife
The unemployed
a few drunks.............:help:

Is it any wonder we're in the state we are. just a thought.

More seriously, elections in the UK are decided by swing voters in key marginals and the political technology now exists to precisely target them and get their votes (which is what Blair needed all those loans from dodgy millionaries who wanted to be in the House of Lords to pay for)

I certainly don't have a plausibly electable candidate that I can vote for who will do anything which I'd personally approve of. I live in a 'safe seat' so my vote doesn't count for anything.

politics and religion. Shouldnt discuss either in public, or more recently, on the internet in forums..far too likely to cause uproar

rather than lock the thread, i strongly urge counting to ten and making cuppa, and letting it drift off the page!

Matty has a good point...

Ignore it and hope they don't get it all wrong again as why would you want a say in how your country was run? Far better just to moan about it later eh?

That sort of apathy is music to our politicians ears as it means they can indeed easily manipulate you, the electorate:bang: :bang: :bang:

As Mr THX says, anything that appeals to unemployed, OAPs & mothers on the pop gets them elected

Just as a thought then... which of Mr THX's 4 categories are you in?

Matty comes under a seperate category of "Admin not to be abused"

Personally I think only Canon users should have the vote, we see the truth.

Diddy - aside from a thread concerning product placement on TV, have you any interest in photography?

You seem to delight in provocation - this can occasionally be an amusing diversion, but it's starting to become your mo and a little wearing.

It would be more interesting imho if you posted some of your pictorial work for us to engage in and comment on for a change.... Come on, you know you want to :D

Ooh the 2 J's have a point too

No idea how to post pics, have tried but didn't work. Perhaps you enlightened ones could enlighten me?:help:

Anyway, there are posters here known to me face to face who asked for a continued series of 'debate' topics for light-hearted relief. The idea is not necessarily for serious debate, but to broach the extremes of thought & ideas in a humorous way - if it's not for you (or this site even) fine

I'll go hunt some of your pics now

Ok, Matty,I'm ignoring the thread... Ok? ;)

in the quick links there is an 'upload photos' thingy...when you have them in your gallery, at the bottom of each picture there will be the stuff you need to paste in here to get them to show up.... ;)

Each photo must be maximum 800x800 pixels, and 160k in size.

You can host them on somewhere like PHOTOBUCKET which is free, or pop them in your own gallery on here. Not sure though if you need to ask admin to set up your gallery or if we all get one as default:thinking:

Ohh and then just remember to put them in Photo Sharing...........

 This place is excellent. I have avoided opening this thread cause I knew it was another "debate" type thread, but thought I'd look in to see the carnage anyway. Surprise, surprise. Everyone has converted the thread into educating DiddyDave about uploading pics. Good job.

Interestingly, DiddyDave, who on here requested you to post "debate" type threads? :)

Well, in Photobucket, under each thumbnail when you're viewing an album are three text boxes. Click on the IMG Code text box and that would copy the link to your clipboard. Then you can paste that line of text in a post here to link to that picture. To paste, CTRL-V or right click in the reply entry box then select 'Paste'.

we can see them in your gallery but not in this thread...it will be easier to view them in a thread than a gallery as most people just upload to the gallery to add them to posts via the link which I showed you in that picture a few posts ago!

It's obvious that your photography skills surpass your diplomacy ;)

Particularly like the mono Trees and Turbines shot.

outstanding photographs and images

**** poor thread making skills...
