I am coming to the conclusion that I'm going to have to give in and provide wireless networking in my home, the number of people that visit for meetings with smartphones, tablets etc. and want internet access is ever increasing and me saying stuff like "if you're on O2 your stuffed, the signal is rubbish here" isn't very helpful.

So, who / what is good in this field these days? Basic requirements are:

ethernet and wireless on the LAN side to ethernet on WAN side.
NAT (ugh) multiple RFC1918 LAN side address to one real WAN side IPv4 address.
Provision for firewall rules across the LAN <-> WAN connection at port level and ability to set static routes. This is crucial, I'm not exposing the rest of my network to the stuff coming from the WLAN.

Budget immaterial, I don't mind paying for the right kit.

I'd be looking at an Asus N66U or AC66U running something like DD-WRT. Most user setup routers probably won't have enough configuration for the firewall rules (unless they are pretty simple). At least with DD-WRT, you have access to the command line and can do pretty much anything. You may find the stock firmware does what you want (but DD-WRT is well supported on the Asus).

Must admit, I'm thinking about a separate access point for visitors myself.

Cheers :D Either of those look like just the job.
