Our eldest is off to Uni shortly and as yet the halls don't have wireless connection. He has been told that he needs a wireless access point rather than a router (the latter is against the T&C's apparently).
I asked at our local computer shop and they sold us a Range Extender which they said would be connected by ethernet cable into the wall and therefore he could use his wireless devices in his room.
Does anyone have any advice as to whether I was sold the right thing? When I've looked at the spec since getting home it seems to receive a wireless signal and connect wired to a device rather than the other way round. I may have worked in IT since Babbage was a lad but networking isn't something I've had any direct involvement with.
