A significant update to Windows 10 called 'Threshold 2' (Th2) has now been released to Insiders and should go on general release soon. It changes the Windows 10 version number to 1511 (year & month). Supposedly it contains a lot of bug fixes and a little bit of visual restyling, which you may or may not notice.

I like the monitor shaky thingy. It sums up my daily workout.

So has the jury decided yet if win10 is good enough to upgrade to from win7 or is it worth waiting a little longer ?

It works very well now, I rolled back my T100 the first time I tried win10 as it wasn't very polished for the touchscreen and Tablet Mode was clumsy, it also didn't do all that well when sleeping compared to 8.1 even though it worked extremely well on my normal Asus laptop (which was good even with the betas).

Even the T100 now runs win10 extremely well and is fully win10 capable, even down to automatically going into tablet mode when disconnecting the keyboard.

According to a lot of forums i have looked at i will not be upgrading win 10 for a long time yet.

No idea why, lots of people seem to dislike it because it is fashionable to do so, a bit like XP for the first few years after it launched (even though hugely improved over its predecessor).

Nothing to do with fashion,my 8.1 runs fine so why change it.

Nope it doesn,t

what,s that got to do with the price of beans.

Beans are cheaper if bought in bulk, it's easier to find bulk specials using Win 10, but we don't have a beans smilie for me to use...;).

Pretty much every comparison I've read disagrees with that statement.

All of the good bits of 7 and 8.1 stuck together in a superior performing and more reliable package.

Someone on a forum @jockwav looked at told him that 8.1 is the best possible ;).

Where does it say that i said win 8.1 is the best,we all have our opinions, some people can,t see past win 10,whatever.

Sure use whatever you like.

But if your hardware supports it, its a better os and its free for a year.. Why not.

Yet another dumb question for you Neil - is there an easy way to find out if your hardware supports win10 ?

Serious question, are they going to start charging "rent" for W10 in the future, like the CS cloud, rather than an out-right purchase?
Or are you just saying that if you want to "upgrade" after a year it'll cost you?

they are offering a free upgrade to 10 for the first year from launch. after that time you'll need to pay for the upgrade pack, the full W10 OEM installer is £110 so I would expect it to be a bit less than that.

as for the subscription part:

I am with plusnet & the amount of members that forum who have reverted back to their old windows because of problems with win 10 is growing.:)

Here's a short list of the minimum specs.

  • Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1
  • 1GHz processor or faster
  • 1 GB RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB RAM for 64-bit
  • 16 GB hard drive space for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit
  • DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 graphics card
  • 800×600 display
And a link to info on how to check - https://www.yahoo.com/tech/heres-how-to-check-if-your-pc-can-run-windows-10-124868299274.html
Hmmm. But if you had a computer with those specs, would Win 10 run like an arthritic sloth, or would it deliver reasonable performance?

I guess 'reasonable' comes down to individual expectations, so perhaps it would be fairer to ask whether it would run at least as well as 7 or 8.1.

More generally, is 10 more or less demanding on the hardware, for 'reasonable' performance, than 7 or 8.1?

Too many to list.:):eek::D

had a quick look on the plusnet forums, i stopped reading when i saw the statement "When I looked at Win 8.1 I was shocked to see how similar it was to NT4."

REALLY? if thats the average plusnet forum user then no wonder they cant get W10 working.

W10 is nice enough to use. it seem nimble and reliable on all the machines I have upgraded so far.

However...

I have gripes...

On my main machine, I had a Microsoft Keyboard attached. It has since been replaced with a Cherry one. Everytime I turn the machine on now I am told about a failed update. When I click the link I am told software for the Microsoft Keyboard needs user interaction before installation.

I have not onl video card drivers, but a whole host of additional stuff I dont want that gets reinstalled everytime new video card drivers are made available.

The start menu search doesnt work at all with mycurrent privacy settings. And then theres cortana which even though I have turned it off, still runs and eats a sizeable chunk of ram.

Then there is the very limited controls over telemetry and updates.

The only real benefit that has improved W10 for me over W8.1 is the ability to change console windows. There are as yet no viable remote server administration tools
