I'm currently bidding on this and wondering where to stop... For a cheap manual focus macro I'm happy.. But if its af I will bid more...
Will this af on a d3300? Or has anyone used this lens?

No built in motor on the body or lens but for macro MF is better IMO

Where is the no built in motor clue lie? I see so many sigma 2.8 d DG ex HSM OEM lenses... Or a combination of these... I know the 35 1.8g will work, the d won't.. But when you get DG it's confusing lol.

Hsm means hyper sonic motor so this will AF focus - I couldn't see it on the lens you're bidding on so assumed it was the earlier DG version, released in 2005.

I doubt you've seen D and HSM on the same lens. D after the aperture is exactly the same as for a native Nikon lens so no motor. DG means it's full-frame as opposed to DC for APS-C.
Also this lens has an aperture ring and the current model, effectively a G lens, doesn't.

I’m a bit late on this I know but you can also see the screw drive shaft on the mount photo.

As the D3300 is a relatively recent model then even 'HSM' variants might not work like 180 f3.5 won't now work on the D810 - even though the lens is 220 miles away from me, it has an aperture ring but also designated HSM - the AF won't work after the most recent firmware change. Buggers things up massively for Sigma resale prices unless you are happy to splash £50 to get the lens updated.

If it's HSM it might AF, if it's not it won't AF. Sorry I can't be any more positive.
