wicker_man's 365 Project for 2010 **Finally Up To Date!**

I had a 9am lecture this morning, then after that I tried to work on some coursework. Unfortunately I didn't get much done because I had a headache and seemed to be catching a cold (and I had a sore throat) so I went home and had a nice cup of tea.

In the evening, I went to the Union to photograph the One World Week Ethical Fashion Show. During one of the intervals, a member of the Sikh society performed a dance, so this is him in traditional dress and displaying the Khanda (an important symbol of Sikhism, representing truth, fighting for religion and that there is only one God.)

I usually have lectures until 4pm today, but luckily my afternoon lecture finished about an hour early. This meant I had a chance to pop to the societies carnival in the park by the Union. This sign was by one of the tents to promote the Sophie Lancaster foundation.

We were woken up today by some prospective tenants viewing our flat. Unfortunately, the School of Rock jam session was cancelled today, so I spent some time tidying my room and relaxing.

In the evening, we went to Fire & Stone (pizza restaurant) because I signed up for their £1 pizza offer. On the way, we saw this street cabinet at the end of our road and it looked like the door had fallen off. I hope it gets fixed soon!

I got up about midday today and then went shopping. After I got back, I worked on some page layout designs for Pugwash, the university magazine. Apart from that, nothing eventful happened today!

Today's photo is of Monkey, who was trying to steal my bananas!

Today, we went for lunch at YO! Sushi, which recently opened at Gunwharf Quays. It was very good, but quite expensive, so definitely not a place you want to visit often if you're living on a student budget!

After lunch, I met a friend to plan our revision schedule for the upcoming exams, and worked on a bit of coursework. I have 2 pieces of coursework due in next week, and exams start the week after, so not much time left!

excellent shots as always!

love wall-e and khanda, what vibrant colours, pin sharp

Today was my last day on the Student Associate Scheme (no more 6am awakenings! Well, not that I've got planned anyway!) That meant I had to get a load of documentation signed by other teachers and fill in sheets about various skills I have learnt.

When I got back home in the evening, I sorted out photos from the fashion shoot last week, and refined a few designs for the uni magazine.

Today's photo is of the power button on my MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the comments! The next few weeks could be a bit challenging with serious coursework and revision going on!

I was awoken this morning at 8am by the postman, delivering my new camera bag- a Crumpler Muffin Top 7500. I needed a (relatively) small shoulder bag for my camera equipment for when a whole photo backpack is not required. It can still fit my gripped 40D with Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 attached, plus a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 and Canon 50mm f1.8 in the main section and a Jessops 360AFD flashgun in the front bit (plus space for accessories.)

I spent some time in the afternoon at a friend's house working on some coursework, which seemed to go OK, but I need to get some books from the library tomorrow.

Today was my 21st birthday! Unfortunately, I had a morning of lectures and an afternoon/evening of doing coursework. But, I'll be celebrating after exams are over!

Today's photo is of the decorations in our lounge. They were from Christmas, but the colours are quite appropriate for the elections today!

I had lectures this morning and afternoon, but luckily my afternoon lecture finished early (2pm) so I had a chance to spend some time at uni working on coursework.

Today's photo was taken at the top of the stairs in the Portland building, where access to the roof is closed off. Unfortunately it was quite dark there, and at ISO400 my compact produces quite noisy photos, so this is one of the rare occasions where I converted to black and white.

Happy birthday ^__^
happy birthday.. hope you had a fab day!
Thanks! Unfortunately the whole day was spent doing work, and the next couple of weeks are going to be crazily busy. But, I will definitely be celebrating when exams are over in 3 weeks!

My family came down to Portsmouth today for a belated celebration of my birthday. We went go-karting in Gosport in the afternoon which was great, and I was the fastest in both rounds! We then went for dinner at Frankie and Benny's in the evening, and my parents had arranged for them to bring out a cake and sing happy birthday to me!

After breakfast and a bit of shopping this morning, my family left for the drive back home because I had some serious coursework to do.

Today's photo is of my pair of trusty Western Digital MyBook Studio 1TB external hard drives. They connect to my MacBook Pro via Firewire 800, so are very fast, and they look good too. The ventilation holes on the top are Morse code, and apparently they say the words "personal", "reliable", "innovative", "simple", and "design."

Happy 21st! Great shots.....love the last one....great idea the morse code..you learn something new everyday!

My plan to get up early this morning did not go ahead, due to staying up rather late last night working on coursework.

I went into uni in the afternoon to do a bit more coursework before my lecture at 3pm. Luckily the lecture was rather short, so I continued working a bit at uni before going home and carrying on with coursework. The end for this piece is close, about 300 words left to finish tonight and it is done! Then I can hand it in tomorrow and focus on my individual project (self study coursework, due in this Friday) and revision for exams next week.

Today's photo is of an energy saving lightbulb. The regular bulb in our bathroom blew today, so it was replaced by one of the energy saving variants. It is a bit annoying because it takes a short while to fully brighten, but we only have another month or so before we move out.

Thanks for the comments!

I was woken up at 9:30am with a phone call from the university library saying they have found a book that I wanted for my coursework (they couldn't find it when I went in to the library to collect it on Monday.) So, I got ready and went to the library and used the book to add a few bits to my coursework, before printing it and handing it in.

I took today's photo on the way home, these guys were decorating the wall, advertising the New Theatre Royal (which is around the corner on Guildhall Walk). I decided to try and give it a film-y look with the black bars.

Our internet at home was playing up in the morning, and when I got back home it was either being so slow that pages wouldn't fully load, or just not loading at all. That made working on my second piece of coursework a bit difficult! It is also why I was unable to upload today's photo until now (Wednesday afternoon.)

great shots.. you are doing fab fitting a 365 in with what sounds a hectic uni workload!

really like the angle on the go carts..

Our internet connection was still not working properly this morning, which was irritating because I still had quite a bit to do on my coursework. We had some potential tenants viewing out flat also today.

In the evening, it was the photo society AGM and voting for new committee. I was elected as President, so I am happy because I've got some big plans for the society for next year!

Today's photo is of an ethernet (RJ45) cable. Our internet connection seems to be OK at the moment though (touch wood!) and it better stay that way too!

Thanks! The workload is really piling on at the moment, I have lots of catching up to do on people's 365s too. To be honest I have been running a bit low on photo ideas lately, and have been using up quite a few of my 'backup' ideas! The scary thing is, my last exam (for this academic year) is in exactly 2 weeks!

My 9am lecture this morning was my last official lecture of this academic year. It was mainly a revision lecture, going over some questions from past papers. After that, I had a meeting with my lecturer on my individual project to check over my work and see what more I could add before handing in tomorrow. I then worked on some improvements in the evening, and added some finishing touches.

Today's photo was taken whilst popping to the shop to buy some eggs for the batter for the toad in the hole I was cooking (I had forgotten to buy them previously).

I went into uni for 10am this morning to get my individual project printed and bound for handing in. It's a relief that coursework is all done now, just serious revision for the upcoming exams!

After handing my work in, I went home for some lunch, and then went to a friend's house to revise for my first exam on Wednesday.

Today's (slightly late) photo is of Monkey looking at the glowing Apple logo on my MacBook Pro.

I went to the School of Rock jam session today and did some drumming (haven't drummed for a while!) There weren't many people there today, probably they were watching football or revising!

In the evening, I cooked a roast chicken with vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. It turned out very nice! I know technically I should cook it tomorrow, but I'm planning on doing some serious revision!

Today's photo is of the fretboard of a bass guitar. The title is from the Saxon song, Denim And Leather.

This morning, I thought I'd pop to the car boot sale by Fratton park. Unfortunately, it didn't appear to be on today, so that was a waste of time! I then went to a friend's house to do some revision for exams.

Today's photo was taken on the way home from my friend's house, it is a shop on Albert road which has some pretty cool artwork!

Last night, I heard the sad news that legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio had died, aged 67 from stomach cancer. So today, I wore my Dio t-shirt and listened to his songs with Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf and his solo work. Unfortunately I never got to see him live.

I went into uni this morning to do some revision with a friend, and consulted my lecturer for clarification on a few topics. Then, I went shopping and in the evening I cooked a sweet thai chilli chicken stir fry for dinner.

Unfortunately, our internet seems to be running extremely slow and my Flickr photo upload keeps failing, so I will update this once I can upload my photo. As my friend Chris says, it's Virgin on ridiculous!

EDIT: Photo now uploaded:

This morning, I popped into the record store and picked up Rising, by Rainbow (one of the many bands featuring Ronnie James Dio on vocals).

I then went to a friend's house to revise for my first exam tomorrow. I popped home in the afternoon (we had a viewing of our flat) and then had some lunch, then back to revision until the evening.

I had my first exam this morning; Construction Materials Engineering. It went quite well, I had no problems with two out of the three questions but the third one was a tricky explanation type one where I don't think I covered enough points.

After that, I ordered my ticket for the Student Activities Awards Dinner, because I have been nominated for an award for my contribution to the Pugwash uni magazine and photography.

I then went home for lunch, and then met at a friend's house to revise for my next exam on Friday.

Today's photo is of a pineapple, or to give it's scientific binomial, Ananas Comosus (which I believe is Portugese!)

Today was spent revising at a friend's house for my Corporate Management exam tomorrow.

The photo for today is of the tweeter of my Bowers & Wilkins 686 speakers.

Great shots there....love the apple and Monkeh shot and the ethernet cable is cool too.

Congrats on being made the president....good luck pushing forward with the changes you want!

I had my second exam (Corporate Management) this morning. I think it went OK, just one more left now on Wednesday.

After the exam, I went to Sainsburys to pick up a few bits to go with the salmon I'm cooking tomorrow, and then relaxed at home in the evening.

Today's photo is of a bottle of Tabasco sauce. It was a very last minute photo for today (actually taken at 00:01!)

Today I went to the last School of Rock jam session of the academic year. It was very hot today, so not many people turned up (which was good, because I got more time to drum!) Today's photo is of the headstock of a guitar.

In the evening, I cooked my salmon for dinner, it turned out very nice (although I maybe should have made some kind of sauce!)

This morning, I popped over to the car boot sale in Fratton Park, but there was nothing good there so I went to Asda to do a quick bit of shopping.

After that, I got back home, had some lunch and then did some revision in the afternoon/evening for my Traffic Engineering exam on Wednesday. It is hard trying to concentrate when the weather is so nice, but I'll be all done on Wednesday (which is when it starts to cool down a bit and rain is forecast!)

Today's photo is a macro of a SIM card.

love the pineapple, great point of view and DOF on it

Thanks! Unfortunately the pineapple wasn't looking it's best (it was a few days old) but you don't really notice when viewing at web sizes!

EDIT: Woah, there seems to be some link automatically added to the 'apple' part of the word 'pineapple'!

I was awoken at 9am by the delivery man with a package for me. It was my Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens, which I sent for repair after the zoom mechanism broke. The lens is working great now, but I will be selling it because I replaced it with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 shortly after the Sigma broke.

I then spent the afternoon revising for my Traffic Engineering exam, and then went to a revision lecture on it from 4-6:30pm. After that I went home, had some dinner and watched a documentary on BBC4 about a war photographer.

Today's photo is of a box with polystyrene packing chips in. I had my flash under the chips and it was wirelessly triggered to give the glow. I love receiving packages, you feel like a child on Christmas morning!

I like the lighting in 134, it looks great :)
Thanks, it was quite difficult trying to get the lighting right for that. I had to use ISO1600 without flash (couldn't get the levels right) so it was a bit noisy, and at f1.8, the depth of field was a bit too shallow (whole of Apple logo isn't in focus.) I suppose with a bit more time it could have worked better, but it was late and I was tired!

Today was spent mainly revising for my Traffic Engineering exam. Apart from that, not much happened!

Today's photo is of the glowing filament in a red light bulb.

Great shot for today! Quality tobasco shot too! :)
Thanks, I was especially pleased with how the box photo turned out!

This morning, I collected my ticket for the Student Activities Awards Dinner, and then went to my Traffic Engineering exam. I thought it was the hardest of the three exams this semester, quite challenging but I think I did OK.

After that, I went to the Pugwash (uni magazine/newspaper) BBQ on the common. Today's photo is of my lamb burgers cooking on it.

As it was the editor's birthday today, she invited us to her house for a party in the evening. It was good talking to people and relaxing (exams all done for this year!)

My turntable arrived this morning, a Rega Planar 2. I've been wanting to get into vinyl for a while and had recently picked up a few LPs from a local record store. Now I get to play them! I've just got a standard budget cartridge on it at the moment, but it sounds good!

After a fry-up for breakfast (at 1pm!) we had some more potential tenants come and see our flat, and then after they went, I set up my turntable. Today's photo was taken whilst playing Poison's Open Up And Say...Aah! LP.

In the evening I relaxed with pizza and a Guinness and watched the Eurovision semi finals.

This morning, I went to the union to discuss photography for the Student Activities Awards Dinner next week. We went over to the venue (TIger Tiger in Gunwharf Quays) to see what it was like and determine where the studio lights could be set up.

After that, I took a walk to the seafront and relaxed for a bit, before going home for some lunch.

I then decided to venture along to see Jamie in Langstone (student accommodation on the east side of Portsmouth.) It was good, relaxing and talking about photography, music and all kinds of random stuff!

Today's photo is the view of Langstone flats/halls, and the clouds being lit by the moon.
