wicker_man's 365 Project for 2010 **Finally Up To Date!**

Today, we got a bus to La Corbière (meaning 'where crows gather') and it is the most south-westernly point in Jersey. This photo was taken just before the causeway to the lighthouse, which is only accessible when the tide is low. After that, we went to L'Etacq to see the Le Pinacle rock. In the evening, we went to an Indian restaurant for dinner.

 
Today, we got a bus to Gorey, on the east coast of Jersey (and it is also one of three main harbours on the island.) We saw the Mont Orgueil castle, and walked around the harbour. After lunch, we went back to our hotel room to pack for our flight back to Gatwick in the evening. We then drove down to my flat in Portsmouth to spend the night before going back home to the West Midlands tomorrow morning.

 
Today, we went back to the West Midlands to spend the remaining week of my Easter holidays at home. This photo was taken whilst shopping in Tesco.

 
Today, we went to Yorkshire to drop off my grandma, who will be staying with an uncle for a few weeks. They have a rabbit, and I thought it would make a relevant photo for today!

 
Today was a day of rest! I didn't have to get up early for anything, so after some breakfast at lunchtime (!) I set up my drum kit in the garage and played that for a while, and then had a nice shower.

Well actually, life is pretty good! I just need to find a job for this summer and crack on with some coursework, because there's only 8 weeks left once we go back to uni and then I've finished my third year!

Thanks for the comments! I can't believe it's been almost 100 days and I've managed to keep up with this project! It has really helped me open my eyes and take a new look at everyday life, seeking out interesting things to photograph or things I encounter during my day.

Thanks for the comment! I usually take quite a few photos with different compositions or subjects for each day and choose one which I think works the best.

Today is day 100 of my 365 project, so I thought I'd take a photo of my trusty Canon EOS 40D. I purchased it in February 2009 and it is an awesome camera which has never let me down so far. It is pictured with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens and has a BG-E2 grip attached, which is what I use for most of my shooting.

Thanks, I tried extension tubes on my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens for that shot. I like Guitar Hero, but am not really that good at it (even though I actually play the guitar!)
 
Today I was dropped off back down to Portsmouth, the Easter holidays went so quickly!

I found my PG Tips Chimp whilst packing at home, so I thought I'd bring him down to Portsmouth so he can be in a few of my 365 project photos!

 
Lectures started again today, but since I don't have any until 3pm, I went to pay the deposit for next year's house (a lovely chunk of the student loan gone!)

In my lecture (corporate management) we had a quiz and the team I was on won, so we got some sweets as a prize. Hence, today's photo is of some love hearts.

 
I have no lectures on Tuesdays, usually I'd be on my Student Associate Scheme placement but the schools are still on Easter holidays.

So, this morning I went to the Union to try out the new studio lighting setup they recently got. It is the first time I'd used studio lights and there is a lot to learn, so I just experimented a bit.

In the evening, I was a photographer for the university Hindu society's "Jalwa Factor" event, which is basically like a talent show. Today's photo is of a dhol player from the Sikh society during one of their performances.

Thanks for the comments! The reason I got a Canon was because it was the best camera I could afford at the time. I'm not really bothered by brands, my first DSLR was a Sony!

Today, I did some more practicing with the studio lighting setup at the union. I think we are getting the hang of the basics now and getting some pretty good results. Today's photo is one of the best I got from the session, it is my friend Chi who modelled for a while!

 
After lectures this morning, I showed some people from the Photo society how to use the studio lights, in preparation for shooting portraits for the "One World Week" exhibition. Today's photo was taken whilst waiting for people to arrive, they are my Denon AH-D1001 headphones which I purchased over Easter. I thought I could do with some closed headphones because as good as my Grado SR80's sound, they are not practical for some situations!

chi looks a little startled :) great lighting though!
 
Fridays are busy days, lectures from 10am to 4pm. Luckily my morning lecture finished early, so I took a walk to Gunwharf Quays to get a photo for today.

Thanks for the comments, I'm getting more comfortable using the studio lights and will be definitely trying to do some more studio shots in future. The headphone one was taken with an aperture of f10 so I was a bit surprised to see the depth of field so narrow (although it was at 200mm.)
 
Today, we went to Brighton for a day trip with the Photo society. It was an early start (9:37am train) but it was a very nice day. We spent some time going around shops and relaxing on the beach. This is my friend and housemate Adam, having a rest after we had some chips.

 
I was very tired after yesterday, so I slept in today. After getting up at about 12:30 and getting ready, I went to the Union to finalise settings for the studio lights in preparation for the portrait shots this week. After that, I came back home and sorted through Brighton photos, and then relaxed in the evening.

This is the studio lighting setup in the Union which we will be using for the One World Week portraits. We finalised the schedule for people to shoot today, and settings to use for cameras/lights in preparation for the shots. My first session is tomorrow evening after I get back from my school placement.

Thanks, yep the weather was great! To be honest, in hindsight I think a narrower depth of field would have worked better for the PS3 controllers, so just the middle one is in focus. My lens was stopped down quite a bit to f5.6 (max aperture is f1.8.)
 
After my school placement, I went to the union for my first photoshoot session. It went quite well, it took a while fine tuning the lighting positions and power levels, but we got some great shots in the end. Today's photo was taken whilst waiting for a friend after the shoot, it is the ethernet connections for the union computers to connect to the network.

 
School placement again today, and some teachers were still away due to not being able to get flights home from Easter holidays, so there were quite a few cover lessons.

This is my new Polaroid camera, a 635CL. I found it in a charity shop for £5, which was lucky because I recently noticed a crack in the viewfinder of my old Polaroid Impulse Portrait. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll get to use this camera until film becomes more widely available and at a slightly more reasonable price.

 
After lectures this morning, there were more photoshoots. Things seemed to run very smoothly, once lights were set there were very few adjustments needed (apart from tweaking height levels to suit models.)

Then in the evening, we went to Fire & Stone, a new pizza restaurant which recently opened in Gunwharf Quays and to celebrate, they had a special promotion where all pizzas were £3. Their pizzas are named after places around the world with ingredients from that region, I had the Marakkesh (which had spicy lamb and a mint yoghurt) and it was very nice.

Today's photo is of my Grado SR80 headphones. I purchased them almost 2 years ago and use them most of the time when out and about because I love the sound quality from them.

 
I had lectures today, and then went to Tesco's to pick up a few bits. On Commercial Road, there was (what I later found out to be) the FA Cup, and people were signing the coach. Then, in the evening, we went to photograph an East African event celebrating Sudan, which was good fun.

 
I did some drumming today at the School of Rock jam session in the Union. I hadn't played drums since Easter (at home) so it was good to get back behind the kit!

This is my new USB memory stick, which I purchased because my old one seemed to have died. It holds 8GB and looks pretty funky!

 
like how you always give a bit of a description of your day and the shot you've taken.. all good stuff again, like the headphone shot.. fab DOF on this.. all good though :)
 
Today, I got some well needed rest! I woke up at 2pm, and had a nice fry up for breakfast (although technically it was past lunchtime!) I popped to the shops to buy some milk to make a cup of tea, then spent some time sorting out photos from recent photography events. I then worked a bit more on some coursework before dinner (sausage & mash) and watching TV.

Today's photo is a macro of the lock on our front door. It was a bit of a random photo when I got back home with the milk, but turned out OK!

Thanks for your comments! I feel that a 365 project needs a little description for each photo to expand on the subject, the day or even just a few words! And I must admit, I love taking shots with a narrow depth of field!
 
I planned to go into uni early today and get a couple of hours of work done before my 3pm lecture. But, that didn't go to plan and I didn't get there until about 1pm!

I popped into the Third Space, a newly decorated area in the Union where our photo shoots for the One World Week would be displayed on the walls. The plaques haven't been mounted below the photos yet (I'll take another photo when they are all done) but the prints are looking good!

No worries, I still have loads of people's 365's I need to catch up on, just been so busy and things are about to get even crazier now with coursework deadlines and exam revision! As I mentioned, I think the PS3 controller shot would have been better with a narrower depth of field concentrating just on the middle controller, but thanks for the compliments!
 
Today was another school placement day, so it was a 6am start! I will be taking a starter activity for a year 7 science class tomorrow morning, so I spent some time preparing for that.

Today's photo is a macro of the PCB on a hard drive.

 
Today at school, I took the starter activity for a year 7 science class. It went quite well, I did keep referring to my notes and it wasn't a totally smooth delivery, but the pupils seemed to find it OK and answer questions correctly!

I got a new pack of rechargeable batteries today (the low self discharge type) so WALL-E helped me put them in my flashgun.
