Actually, now you have come to mention it, I have recently completed a major loft clear out where I had 4 video/TV stands, a school desk, 8 broken PC towers, 2 broken garden chairs, 2 doors, rolls of carpet, 2 CRT TVs, 4 computer monitors (of the CRT type), stereo units, synthesizers which never worked, books, VHS tapes, 3 broken fake Christmas trees, 2 boxes of cables and adaptors . . . and the list went on. Anyway, fast forward six months and now I only have two cardboard boxes of keepsakes (artwork and toys I had when I was a kid) in the loft, the rest is space.
The problem came to light when I noticed a crack starting to form in the ceiling of my hobby room and I went up in the loft to investigate and it was where a TV stand sitting on top of a TV stand slid off and almost broke through the ceiling . . . so I decided something has to be done, while a majority of it was chucked away or sent to the tip, some items got sold so I made a little bit of pocket money out of it. That's how I went from a loft stuffed full of junk to just the two boxes. I've really been ruthless about it - and quite rightly so.
Mind you, I did go through a serious Boot Fair phase in the past and that's where most of the junk came from, but since I gave up the car five years ago, I rarely bother with boot fairs these days.
