Common guys if we can see it then it has got to help surely
If it's hosted by flickr, it gets stripped out and placed on flickr instead.
Since when?
I have never intentionally stripped my data out of photos, yet when hosted here from Flickr it does not appear. If someone can tell me how to get round this (other than clicking to my Flickr site) then I'm all ears.

Host on Photobucket
I do and all my EXIF is retained

As Marc just said, it's only kept on the original size, so if you upload a 1200 x 800 image, the original is too large to post here, so you lose the exif data. If you post at a size suitable for the forum, you can then use the original size from Flickr as your image here, and the exif will be in tact. (Yes, it's a PITA.....)
Steve
I'm guessing you mean when I'm originally posting to Flickr? If so this sounds easier than having a photobucket account as I can just post more than one copy of the same image to my Flick account and use the suitable sized one for here.
As an exif sinner, I don't deliberately withold the information but do use "save for web" when saving an image to be hosted on the forum gallery as it's a pain to try to do it any other way. I rarely use flickr and as said it removes it automatically on anything suitable for direct link on the forum.
why not just use "Save As"

"Save As" just saves 'as is' whereas "Save for Web" allows a change of size to fit the forum image and file sizes.

Since the recent changes to Flickr were made, the EXIF has been stripped from all but the original size. If you uplad the full size then any that you post to the forum will be without EXIF.
That said, if you use the BB code, the viewer can click on the image and go to Flickr where the EXIF can be viewed.
My bugbear on photography forums ( this one is no exception ) is photographers posting there images and not stating which lens/camera were used. Most people I think would like to know this at the very least and the full exif would be an added bonus if possible.
I just hope it's not removing the IPTC info as well with all my copyright and contact info though.
shouldnt do, lightroom keeps my IPTC data there and it shows when going to "view exif" in flickr.
I always save a full sized image on my external hard drive- then add text to the image if required, then - re-size the image to say 800 x 600 in Photoshop Elements 9 and "save as" for internet forum use -- Simples

I also save the full sized image to HDD but how does re-sizing that to 800x600 obtain the acceptable file size?
A full sized image reduced to 800x600 can still produce an image of several meg, whereas the forum requires not more than 200Kb.
Saving for web allows the full sized image to be reduced in literal size and file size so that it is available for forum use in basically one procedure.
Yes but if I post on here all that EXIF which can be viewed on flickr isn't stored in the image being shown. If I want that I need to go pro and link to the original sized image.
What I am concerned with (and will check later if no one else does) is that along with the EXIF the IPTC data which is far more important to me, goes too. Meaning when I do strike it lucky the finder might not be able to contact me if (for what ever reason) the back link to the flickr page is gone.
Why not use Image>Image Size then Save as?
When you Save as in photoshop, you can adjust the file size using the slider. I would think there's something seriously wrong if an 800 pixel image is several megabytes.
Flickr doesn't strip the exif data it merely moves it.
If you click on the model of camera used where I've ringed in this picture, it shows all the exif data if you didn't save for web.
That may be the case, but if your displaying the image out side of flickr (ie using the sharing code) then you have 2 clicks to get to the exif.
Here's an example :some one saves off the image, then wants to buy it/commission me (unlikely but not the point). They no longer have the link, and as the EXIF and ITPC containing my email, phone number and web site is gone you can't contact me.
And as I have a common name Googling is a pointless exercise as I don't even hit the top 5 pages for either just my name or my name and photography.
edit: I do watermark all my images now with my url so this is kind of moot but it's an example of why i think ripping out contact details is bad.
as above, flickr retains ITPC info. even if you save the image down from another source (i.e. a forum) the data is still there on the physical image file that is downloaded![]()

This is quite annoying for one reason. When someone saves an image i displayed in a post by right clicking and selecting "save as", the image that he manages to save does not have any Exif data in it so if you put any copyright information on the exif it will not be included if someone saves your image.
