Im looking to buy the Nikon 50mm f1.8 D AF Lens £76.99 blah blah blah.Sell this lens to me,why should i buy it, is it worth the money and if possible include example pictures too.

Thanks

Sell this lens to me

I'll sell it to you for £300 if you like :D

Sorry, can't offer you any other serious advice other than to say that the Nifty Fifty seems to get some excellent reviews on here so im sure someone will offer you something constructive.

If you are looking to buy, why do you need it selling to you? If you want a cheap 50mm prime then it sounds like a good bet, if you don't then it probably isn't!

Why do you want it? Just because it's £76.99? That's why most people buy one, then they don't use it, because they don't appreciate how narrow the angle is at 50mm.

If you can think of a good reason to buy one then go for it, but if not then put the money towards something you'll actually get some use from.....

I've just ordered one, and to get an idea of the field of view I set my Sigma 17-70 to 50mm and had a walk around. Quite suprising (especially on cropped sensor) how far back you have be to get more than head/shoulders in the shot.

I must be odd then.... My nifty is my "walk around" on my 30D... but I guess I am odd shooting Canon, no? :D

I love it for the shallow depth of field, the "sneaker" zoom facility and the crispness of the shots (when they are in focus!).

Canonistas don't count

Seriously though, it depends on your shooting style and indeed what you plan to shoot, but I doubt many "nifty fifty" :gag: buyers consider this before they make the purchase, they hear all about this legendary lens at only £60 or £70, so they buy it. Then they shoot everything wide open and complain because they don't get the amazing images they think they will.

I admit freely to getting suckered in by the hype and buying one, but it didn't fit in with the type of images I shot, so I rarely used it.

Im looking to possibly use it when i am out with the dog on walks, just see a decent shot and take it.I'll have a look with my 18-55mm and set it to 50mm and get a feel for the depth of field.

Thanks for the reply guys, any pictures i can view ?

You won't get a feel for the depth of field. What you will get an idea of is the angle of view.

The former is what is sharp in front of and behind the point of focus.

The latter is how much you fit in up and down and side to side.

...:plusone:

...I too was taken by the hype of this lens and picked one up last week. So far it has managed to get me a woodland portrait of my girlfriend with her actually smiling, a trully impressive piece of kit to achieve this :D

Both Nikon users, both disappointed with the results. What more can you say

I too bought one of these couple of weeks ago and used it for a whole weekend as my primary walk around lens.
I found it great for limitting the dof and managed to get some great shots with it!
Worth the £75 quid!:thumbs::nikon:
