Why restrict access to profile?

Why do people feel the need to pry into others lives.
I could tell a whole pack of lies in my profile, what difference would it make.
It's down to sheer nosiness, I don't go round handing out bits of paper at meetings I attend with my life history
if you want to know something PM me if I might tell you, but I can't see what difference someone
being able to see what is or isn't in another's profile makes any difference to what you think of their
photography, perhaps someone could explain that ?

I'm guessing that means you're not paranoid, I'm also guessing that as we know a little about you, you're less likely to start name calling and being a general nob.

It seems there are people who don't understand the 'issue' and are guessing miles wide of the mark.

If you read some people's posts, you can see the pattern, behave like a nob = hide all personal details

I agree with Daniel on this. There is little or no reason to be anonymous online anymore. Especially on forums like this one. I'm not sure its creepy though but the majority of people who maintain a clock to hide their identities just seem to wish to insult, troll and cause trouble. On a purely personal note I'm far less likely to trust what anyone has to say without atleast a real name on their profile

My avatar tells plenty about me. I do like bananas but I like eating in general.
I like travelling and going out, and I do wear hats (mainly keep the sun from giving me a headache).
if any one got "1+1=10" joke on my avatar's shirt (along with my profile name) should be able to easily tell what kind of work I do for a living.

My avatar is also brown for a reason I am not just permanently tanned

I don't have any more information on my profile because I am just lazy to fill out sign up forms. So I probably just filled the minimum needed to sign up.

In my case 'Snapshot' was my CB handle so it seemed natural to use it online. It was taken here so I used the alternative form with a zero.
My avatar is from my Lego Star Wars sequence and perhaps reflects my personality a bit.

What I don't understand is why people here use avatars that aren't their own creations. I can understand it on non-photographic fora but here?

my profile is totally open and I have been accused of behaving like a k.......b, by the Mods, what can be worse than that ... I was told by one to stop posting rubbish, he was referring to my images, but looking at his I have nothing to fear, but I did stop posting ...... I have certainly nothing to hide and will certainly stand behind all I say

I'm with Tony on this. Privacy is important and not everybody who "hides" behind a veil does it for sinister reasons. In these days of political correctness and corporate ethical standards, it is necessary to keep private and corporate life separate.

There's a big difference between an open profile with little info and a locked down profile without a name, avatar or any other detail relating to a real human being.

I like the anonymity of the internet. So much so, that when someone does use my real name occasionally online, because they may know me in the 'real world' or it is on a site where I have used my real name for some reason, it seems weird. I put as much information out as I'm comfortable with. If someone feels that is not enough information, and it somehow negates what I am posting, or have posted. Meh! Whatever.

I don't think I go round insulting, trolling or causing trouble, but if anyone ever thinks that of me, or anyone else, whether they are using their real name or we know everything about them, report it to a Moderator. I come to learn, be entertained and engaged in subjects that interest me. I like trying to help people, and sometimes make (imho anyway ) humorous comments. I don't feel anyone needs to know everything about me to do that. If anyone feels different, put me on your ignore list.

I believe you fall into the category of open, honest and opinionated.

And self confident enough to shoulder a description of knob and laugh it off. There's a big difference between you and the nobs who are the subject of this thread.

If you see someone name as name + surname .... how do you know its real? could be just as fake as a made up silly name ?
