What's that all about? Don't they make the shorts superfluous?

Not leggings but I often wear cycling shorts under shorts and helps stop chaffing while running.
Why wear the shorts?

Who wears short shorts

I wear cycling shorts under regular shorts when I'm rowing. The cycling shorts because they prevent rubbing and chafing and the regular shorts because the cycling shorts are very thin and very tight.
Maybe they're less bothered about putting their lunch boxes on show.So why don't professional cyclists wear regular shorts over their cycling shorts?

Aerodynamics.
Personally, either/both. Padded cycling shorts aren't ideal for rowing, obviously, because the padding is *mostly* in the wrong place, but it's not *entirely* in the wrong place. When you (anybody) say cycling shorts, do you mean compression shorts or do you really wear proper padded cycling shorts under ordinary shorts.
Oh right. I've never rowed. I wear padded shorts for cycling and would have thought that they would be quite uncomfortable for anything else.Personally, either/both. Also help stop the build up of lactic acid. Proper compression clothing also helps retain body heat and keep the muscles warm, preventing pulled muscles.I'm guessing it's compression tights which allegedly help circulation which should help improve performance
Where are their helmets?
I'll get me coat.
