.......how much money they've got.
^^ I would have put that in the title but there wasn't enough room
I get really quite offended by people who do this.
Fair enough if the topic of conversation is about specific things, eg: your salary, but when folk just sprout completely out of the blue about how much they earned "doing a foriegner over the weekend" and just how easy it was, or what new car they've just bought and how much it was......
Does my head in !!!
Are there a lot of insecure people about these days ?
Is there a great need to show off in this manner ?
For those of you reading this who do it, do you think about what other people might think, or feel.
This isn't a dig at anyone specific on here, just a general thing I've noticed on the increase over the last few years.
Haha, glad I am not the only one that does that![]()
As the song goes."A man can make money but money does not make a man"
Although I suspect you only posted that pic to show off your high fidelity audio system really![]()

Very good. I heard it on next doors stereosung by poor people mostly lol
You've missed the point. Its all about HOW they show it off, or how they go about showing how proud they are.
If you were unemployed, struggling to live with very little or no money, would you appreciate it if a mate of yours came up to you and bragged about his new car, "Only 40k!" says he. How would that make you feel?
What gets my goat is when people refer to property in terms of monetary (is that spelt right??) value. I think a house should be a home.

I hope that makes sense.
Betty, a couple of years back I was in a similar position as you and your dad my outgoings were more than my income and I really thought that I was going to loose the house, but you know what even then I never got hacked off with people telling me what they had brought, at the end of the day it is not their fault that they can afford it and I was struggling to pay the bills.
DAve - I think its not the fact that they can buy this stuff.. but that they are so insistent on telling the world how much it cost, which is the problem. For sure people can have all the stuff they can afford.. as you say work hard, play hard.. but is it really fair to brag to everyone else who cant afford it?
Regards, James
I am guessing you didnt have friends like Stuart then, thats the point I am trying to get across, he was blatantly rubbing it in my dads face, which was TOTALLY uncalled for, you see where I am coming from? Do you that thats acceptable?
FTR, I know quite a few very rich people, if you met them, you would not know they had a bean.
I was told that you were very wealthy, Fracster![]()
You be wrong then, please accept that.............![]()

I occasionally deal with a guy who is now on over £50k a month....... Another couple I consider as friends must be on around £30k a month

lol! No. Just a bit of good old fashioned hard work.People like that get right up my nose, whereas their products usually get right up other peoples![]()
got one of these for that TBF
![]()
I must have misunderstood, someone said you had piles![]()

Been a while, but I have had them in the past. The PITA returned briefly about a month ago, but quickly subsided............![]()

What is it about this ******* country that people get wound up or upset about folk who are successful? I occasionally deal with a guy who is now on over £50k a month and I don't have any issues with that. He's always willing to help anyone who asks. Another couple I consider as friends must be on around £30k a month, drive a Bentley when in this country and have beautiful homes in Spain and the US. When I see him pull up in the Bentley I don't come over all jealous. I simply work harder so I can be like him one day.
People who are successful inspire me.
I have had a good old read of this thread. Interesting opinions.
In my opinion, the people that have alot of money and brag about it and go around bigging it up really are people to pitty. These people are called the "nouveau riche" which means newly rich. These people tend to be very insecure about themselfs and feel the need to flash their cash to people whom they know have less money. These people (the ones who show it off) also feel the need to act instantly like the mega rich. have posh dinner, buy big boats, etc etc. As a result, these are the people that actual rich people hate the most.
Now. There are members of the newly rich that do not act this way, and they are infact amongst the people i respect the most. They have earnt their money. They are as a result people that can't be told apart from people with considerably less money. They also tend to be very generous with it as well. Which earns further respect (in a non gold digging way that is).
I Personally have a few things that others may not, simply because I have worked for it, and spent my money (from part time jobs etc whilst at school / 6th form) on things I enjoy. The last thing I do however is rub it all in people's faces.
So in answer to the OP, I totally agree, I have indeed seen an increase in the "nouveau riche". It's sad. Though my advice is to feel sorry for them, as really, they are the ones that feel out of place the most, due to how shallow and self centered they are.

A few months after all this we met up with an old friend and not having discussed anything related to money at all she spies my watch and goes off on a rant about how vile the thing is and how unfare it is that some people can afford such things when others have a hard time paying bills to live.
