Which speedlight?

they look good but £420 for a pair ... plus i need umbrellas etc :( expensive ..

not saying those are the best option as I don't have any, but worth thinking, if you just buy cheap now then you will probably buy twice ;)

but dont i have to then buy some kind of umbrella for them?

FWIW i will probably be using them 99% of the time if not all of it - in my dining room with a big white sheet/vinyl/pop up whatever i buy to take full body portraits and headshots ..

That is it really.

Any other photos i do for fun will be just that so if they look kack ill delete em.

long term you need a working knowledge of both, owning both helps but own what you need to use, location lighting can be done fairly simply for about £100 over the cost of the 580exII most professionals already have so lets leave it as an issue for now

you want studio in a small space which is something my skillset covers only vaguely and all my really good studio work has been done on rented kit/space with a lot of room and a lot of options. This is more Gary's area of expertise than mine, a big q for him though is how big is your dining room because you need to have bg-subject-camera seperation and there are working minimums for those.....
