WHich song always brings a lump to your throat?

Great kick-a$$ thread this, love it.

Two from me if I may. The first of which is simply choral work and orchestra at its very best. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing... well... just listen (especially to the section at 3:18)

Secondly is this superb piece from Gordon Giltrap, Dodo's Dream in which he plays I think it is 6 different tracks - wait for it - LIVE!!! He uses a Loop Station Recording machine to record and overlay track on track on track et al... all LIVE!! it is wonderful. Enjoy the magic!

I much prefer the original Nine Inch Nails version :)

One song that really got me blubbing was 'Under the Bridge' by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'd just read 'Scar Tissue' (the biography of Anthony Keidis, the singer) which explained the meaning behind the song. I was travelling to work when the song came on the radio, and cried most of the way to work :lol:

Au fond du Temple Saint - from the Pearl Fishers by Bizet

This is a little longer than some, but I do recommend it (try coming in at about 2:55 if you're not into opera that much). It can really lift the hairs on the back of your neck.

There are many versions on YouTube (try Roberto Alangna and Bryn Terfel for example) but this is the best version I have ever heard - quite startling!

That song that the Canadian horse faced bint sang in Titanic. Brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it. Generally several lumps actually. Of diced carrot.
 
I think mines has to be camaflauge by ahhhhh can't remember who by:nuts: and not a dry eye in the house by meatloaf.
 
For very different reasons (I suspect) from many of the above selections this always brings a lump to my throat!

Oh I wouldn't say that - I'm sure every one is special in some way or other! But the first few bars of Crossroads always gets me :)

Maybe not a lump, I don't think there are any songs that do that for me, but certainly poignant is Van Morrison, Have I told you lately [that I love you] - Mr LL and myself had the great pleasure of seeing the man himself performing what has always been a favourite song live at Kenwood a few weeks ago. We should all remember to tell our loved ones we love them more often ;)

Hi Spence,

I wouldn't say it's one of my favourite Floyd songs, I find it too traumatic - almost an ordeal - to listen to. I do rate it, however, as the most powerful and compelling song I've heard and the only one that makes me sob uncontrollably.
