Which of these wide angle lens's???

Yes the Tokina seems to be on the 450-500 bracket. Felt very solid when I had a go but the limited zoom meant I'd have to swap a lot so that plus price sent me to Tamron.

Tokina 11-16mm all day.
I'd be amazed if you can buy a legit copy for £350 though!!

Built like a tank, lovely & sharp, quick to focus and fast at f/2.8

thanks guys!

kevin that's a great help thankyou, gives me an idea of what 10mm is going to be like on DX format, pretty good!

I just got the sig 10-20 for my Sony - and......love it! Weird having such a wide angle having never used one before, good weird tho

<must remember to keep tripod legs out of the pic :bonk:>

Two pics taken with the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6
The first one was with a D300 and the second with my D50.
It is a cracking lens,I have never regretted buying it. Even though I now have a Nikkor 16-35 f4 for full frame I am keeping hold of the Sigma.

It seems like only the second image is visible. But you can see how good the lens is.

@OP, was a decision made? im looking around these options (for canon) aswell and as per usual everyone has their own preference.. i think price that the results from places like dp review are going to narrow the decision for me... then im going to go have a play with them in the shop & see what happens. choices choices.

Cooor thanks guys, this is becoming a great help. It's becoming apparent that just because the nikon is the most expensive, I may get similar/same results with a cheaper lens! Looking like the tamron/tokina at the moment given the price

and for whoever asked where I got the prices from, do you mind me asking why? I only had a quick google

Seems like good prices - some lenses cheaper than I would have expected...

How comes is it that no-one mentions the Tokina 12-24 f4 DX pro.... Is it that its an f4 or that its only a 12-24mm

I had one (Tokina) & thought it was a lot better than the Sigma 10-20 (Yes I've owned both)

That's the one I'm saving for. Happy to sacrifice 2mm in the name of sharpness. I don't see a great deal of point in having a wider aperture on what is primarily going to be a landscape lens.

I bought a Tokina 11-16 for £360 off here, 2nd hand. It can be done if your lucky.

I think the 11-16 is the sharpest DX UWA, I'm quite happy to have bought it over the Nikon. The corner sharpness is also quite something!

Trig's I do want the extra 2mm to be honest, and this won't be a primarily landscape lens (if it was 2mm wouldn't bother me)

It's for something to use on a personal project i'm doing :) Still deciding guys, will try out the sigma 10-20 and nikkor lens mentioned in OP maybe this saturday and see if a couple of mm is worth sacrificing

thanks again guys so far!

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I'm also looking for a UWA lens. I've narrowed it down to between the Nikon 10-24 or the Tokina 11-16.
I borrow a friend's Nikon 12-24, which is superb, so am leaning toward the Nikon, but the price difference is quite a bit and the Nikon is supposed to have quite soft corners at 10mm.
There is also the fact that the Tokina is quite a bit faster, at f2.8.
Can anyone with the Nikon 10-24mm take a landscape shot at 10mm please?

Another vote for the Tokina 11-16mm here. I tried out the Nikkor 10-24mm on my D90 body before buying, but it came down to the numerous positive reviews I had read of the Tokina eventually.

A cracking lens but make sure you get a sharp copy (if purchasing brand new that is). As has been said, the price for one of these brand new from official dealers is a lot more than what has been quoted above.

Tokina 12-24 is an awesome lens; superb sharpness, corner-to-corner and very good value on the used market (£250-£280). Not as well built as the Nikon 12-24mm, which is the daddy for DX bodies IMO.

Sigma 10-20 (variable aperture) was okay, but not a patch on the two I've mentioned, even with that negligible increase in wide end focal length.

Tokina 11-16 is very interesting; again, very sharp but with a limited zoom range, but definitely a key contender.

I moved over to a Sigma 14mm f/2.8 for the closer focussing distance - superb lens if a prime is under consideration.

I echo AWP on the 17-55 front; super lens.

Of course, the king is the Nikon 14-24 but that's just lens porn :)

Went to a relatively close camera shop that I go to for most, if not all my stuff now...excellent shop they really are!

I asked to look at the sigma and tamron as mentioned previously (didn't want to look at the nikon purely because of price, and they didn't have the tokina) so I tried the sigma on, felt very well built and solid...focus and zoom ring offered a nice bit of resistance and had a nice bit of weight to it. So stuck it on and went out the back to try it out on a car (as this is what it was mainly going to be used for) and instantly I knew 10mm was what I wanted, also the picture was incredibly sharp considering it was handheld...so i was happy there. Went back in, and all I did was take the tamron out of the box and instantly said "nope, i'll take the sigma"...the tamron felt very light and flimsy in comparison, and for the extra 50 quid I took the sigma :) I also asked for a 2nd hand CPL as i knew a decent new one would be expensive for 77mm, so they gave me a 2nd hand hoya pro 1 D CPL, cleaned up good as new. Turns out they retail for £132 so pretty pleased there ;)

Anyway, enough blabbering, here's some results! First time out with the lens so to say i'm pleased is an understatment

Feel free to criticize but i'm over the moon with these so chances are any constructive crit will go straight over my head :D

Shame they didn't have the tokina as a comparison - however you are happy with the results and thats what counts!

Congrats on the purchase.

Only comment on the pics is Awesome!!! Oh and perhaps needs to be brightened a little?

Yeh it would have been nice, and i've seen good reviews...but hey ho, like u say i'm happy with the one i've got!

And thanks for the comment about the pics, and I agree, maybe and extra second or 2 exposure :)
