I've got a Samsung Galaxy S, which is ok (awful camera though) - but like all Androids you have to be prepared to be geeky to get the best of out them (Reflashing firmware is not for the nervous) - it was very "sticky" until rooted & changed to latest firmware.
There's probably a new version due shortly as its a year old (...Nexus S...?)
Apart from that, the HTD Desire / HD seems quite popular. And there's a load of cheap ones coming out now (get what you pay for, of course...)

Another vote for the desire. Awesome little phone, got a few helpful photography apps on it, battery life on my one though is pretty poor, whether or not thats the way i use it thats causing that i dont know.
The built in WIFI hotspot is a brilliant addition aswell.
I was looking at moving from a windows mobile phone to Android but didn't really want to commit to a long contract then find out I hated it so I bought an Orange San Francisco.
It is a fully specced & easily rooted/flashed/customised PAYG phone for £100. Not as fast as the latest generation phones but plays Angry Birds so what more do you need.........

My friend just bought that for his son and he loves it.

Looks like the Desire HD is popular; may well go for that. I've had a play with the San Fran but think it would only leave me wanting more![]()

another vote for HTC phones, ive had a desire which was great (see clasifieds) and have now got a desireHD which is awesome as well. i looked into the samsung galaxy but it felt cheap and plasticky whereas the HTC feels solid

If you want a slightly harder life, cheaper/free apps (with ads) then Android is for you.
