Any recommendations on any specific 5D model for landscaping?
I mean I like the idea of the 5DsR’s megaresolution at 50+ Mp and I know I don’t need it but well…
What worries me about the 5DsR is that I read a few fairly unfavourable reviews but I would prefer to do my own tests…
Depends on your shooting preferences and budget really.
5D mkIV is probably the best of the lot, and the best allrounder. IT is by far the most expensive too. 30MP is about the sweetspot resolution, few lenses will resolve more outside of centre.
5D III. Totally fine, and IQ is rather close to R6 from what I've seen noise-wise (R6 is half a stop better and that's with nearly decade R&D). MP count is lower, but it is still fine. Remember 1DSIII had same and was regarded as top of the line. For landscape work it absolutely needs magic lantern so you can bracket and not worry about dynamic range. MK IV sadly does not have that luxury but you get better DR out of the box. Sadly most are now in terrible state, like the original 1DX and you really don't want one with the latest firmware as that shuts the door on ML.
So far both can be regarded as nice allrounders.
5Ds is a very specialist camera. It is ideal in studio conditions, for reproduction work and where super large prints are required. I own one and can describe it as higly rewarding but incredibly difficult to make the most of it. Major part of that comes from that fact 50MP will magnify any minor shake, lens flaw, focus error, subject movement, etc. So you have to choose your lenses, apertures and settings super carefully and ideally use tripod. That goes for all very high MP cameras so far. Unless you just don't care and treat it as 20-30MP camera with headroom; then it will just downsidze well and usually give sharper images than equivalent body. Now 5Ds specifics or negatives. 1) still no usable video res with AF. 2) noise is bloody through the roof, like its worse than 5dIII even after downsizing. You want to keep it to within ISO 320 if you like crystal clear images. 3) DR is clearly worse than 5DIII an no ML available so just bracket 5 frames or even 7. You may find most useful. Sony A7RIV with adapter is probably a better choice if you can afford the difference and put up with EVF and adapters.
For wedding 5DIII is far far better choice. Due to minor shake and slower fps your results will be roughly equal at best.
