When do you use a CPL ?

Are you sure you didn't mount the Cokin CPL backwards? that would kill AF from many cameras. Screw on filters are hard to mount backwards but slot in types are very easy!
No, it was a screw on filter. Wide open at 70mm it was OK, but at 300mm it just didn't work. The quality of glass was just not there, and the higher magnification/smaller field of view brought out the deficiencies of that model of polariser.

After reading a few of you that leave them on all the time I might try one again I have an Urth one. From memory I especially didn't like how awkward they are with a lens hood fitted.
On my Nikon lenses there is no problem with having the lens hood on and the polariser, which I also do have on all the time. Easier to adjust with the lens hood on a wider lens, 16-85mm/16-80mm.
