I thought he described a nice and we'll build version; really read what he wrote. It only gets load under load. Not something you can do in a build up area.

MJ have an excellent reputation and make quality products. Not to be confused with the kind of crap on the 1.0 Nova from the boy next door. Under normal driving consitions it's barely noticeable and legal. Take it to the track and the beast can open up.
 
I'm surprised at the price. Only £3k more than a Golf GTI.
The new RS is very impressive, for me I don't like the boy racer style exterior. But also after having had my Golf R for two years now, I'm glad to go back to something more comfortable. I can't begin to imagine how the RS would be for a daily driver :eek:

You don't see any of the previous RS models on the road much. I think most are locked up in garages and not used as daily drives.

There could be another reason for that with the previous model ;) the current one has a drivetrain much more suited for that.

All personal choices naturally, but this is not one car I would buy new to lock up in a garage. After all it is just a family hatchback, a very good one but never the less.

Many people think the looks are too subdued, I reckon they have got it just right, not too wild, but just enough to be different to the ST, but functional styling too.
From what I've read it's quite civilised to drive, just as the ST is. A mate at work has an ST but has been fortunate as part of his job in nvh, to test drive the RS on the test track at work and also the proving grounds test track at Lommel in Belgium. he reckons it's just as good and friendly when you want it to be, but very impressed with it's handling and traction.
I've known several people at work who have had the previous model as daily drivers even with the Mountune performance upgrade to 350PS. There's a bloke in Essex, practically uses his everyday and his is putting 600bhp through the front wheels, now that has got to be a handful.

Other than the RS200, all the RS models have been family cars, some small, some large, but still family cars none the less.

I will test drive one. The power isn't the issue for daily driving, it's nice, mine is running at about 370. It's the harshness of the suspension in conjunctions with the noise. I thought mine was just fine when I got it. However as I regurlary go to the West Country I do notice I find it tiring on the longer journeys. But I did go for standard suspension and no adaptable. Naturally I can't compare it to the air ride of our Mercedes GL with active cornering, but my Audi with sport suspension is soft compared to the Gold R.

I will try the RS as there is a lot of good feedback on how it now can safely put all that power on the road with the new drive train. But I think I'll be sensible and go for something quiet and comfortable instead.
 
My worst; smelly people. Yuk, yesterday at the blood test centre was a combination of screaming toddlers, and smelly people. Not a nice wait.
 
I have a soft spot for the fiesta St, its the best looking ford I've seen in a long time. I'm usually drawn to the small not hatches. Anyone have a british car auction online account? Wonder what the going price is at the fordtrust auctions they have?

Whilst we are on the topic of new cars, the wife and i are looking at doing a personal car lease later in the year. Our budget will be around £200 including VAT.
Ive seen many deals including specials which seem quite good.
I am clear about the upfront payment, monthly payments and processing fee. What i cannot find info on is maintanence packages.
Do prices for these vary, are they all they are cracked up to be?
I like the concept of almost trouble free motoring (as i understand it not all circumstances are covered by maintanence packages) and the fact that after 2 or 3 years we can hand the car back and go for another one.

Any further info and advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Just got to do your sums. On my Golf R I was quoted £35+vat extra per month. Yet in the two years and 24,000 it would only require a single service which is £150 after some phoning around.

Unfortunately there isn't a fixed answer to this as many companies make up the deal through various means. You've got to do your sums for each and every deal.

Also deals vary wildly throughout the year. I find it easiest to do this when you have another runabout such that you can wait and strike when the best deal comes up. Often they are in limited supply as well and often in set colours.

The last deal i did see was for an Audi A4 2L TDI in red for £164 a month including VAT. This was over 3 years and 9 months upfront.
Seemed like a cracking deal but unsure if there was a catch or if it was just stock they needed to get shot of.

One thing im not fussed for is adding on the bells and whistles. At most i would pay extra for a decent colour.

I guess the key come september then is to watch for deals and do the maths
 
Within reason you can normally agree to when you want the car delivered. Sometimes delivery times can easily be 6 months for a new car if not longer. I'd start looking now.

Having had a Mondeo ST and now a Focus ST, if there is any harshness in the suspension, I've never noticed any and reckon the Recaro's are very comfortable. Be aware though the RS comes with 3 choices of Recaro seat, one doesn't look too far removed from a full on racing seat. But if the side supports of the backrest on my ST seats are anything to go by, they can be very snug, so if you are large around the waist, you may have trouble sinking back into the seat. I believe the ST's seats in America are wider in this respect.

When my mate test drove the RS at work recently he did a standing start, not sure if he used the launch control, but there was a brief squeak from the front tyres, a fraction of a second, not even time for a squeal, the 4wd kicked in and it was away, no wheelspin.
 
Aha I didn't realise there were different levels of the seat. I like your diplomatic speak :) luckily my waist line is in good shape :) I love the snug feel of the seats in the Golf R and our Mercedes GL AMG (with active side bolster support).

It's not my kind of car, but I just noticed a special deal on a Citroen C4 Cactus which is for £89+VAT and absolute steal. That is seriously a lot of car for your money if you can live with the looks. For the savings I could almost be swayed and I know others absolutely love the look.

I noticed that deal. The styling might be a bit left field for some but i have a secret liking for some of the current Citreon styling. I am particularly fond of the DS3 too.

Excellent. Probably as good as it gets value for money wise. I do like the ds3 (if I was younger) and the ds4. But not the cactus. But that is ok, as it would be boring if we all like the same thing.

I saw a C4 Cactus in Tesco car park, the roof rails looked like ice skate blades stuck on the roof, if nothing else you could roll it over in the snow and go sledding, or skating. ;)

They have come along way over the years a heck of a lot since my sister owned a Citreon AX which was a death trap on wheels.
 
Yeah i like the Cactus too and Citroen in general. Never owned one or any french car for that matter. I also much prefer peugeots new style direction with the 308 being my favourite. Much more purposeful than the old dopey clown face fronts.

I had the misfortune of having an AX as a courtesy car for a few days. The car was cheaper and more basic than the base model mk1 Fiesta I had and the Fiesta was from 20yrs earlier.
 
I used to have a Dyane and loathed it, although I should have been grateful for any set of wheels of my own! Its only saving grace was the removable rear seats which could be taken down onto the beach so we had a sofa to sit on in comfort! The later Picasso (Xsara, not C?) was a decent car. Comfortable, civilised, practical, although the current car is as economical despite being significantly more comfortable and civilised (but not quite as practical.)

You don't know what Ford sell all their Options finance and mobility vehicles do you? Do they go to BCA?
 
I'd have thought they'd go to BCA. If you sign up to BCA auction view thing you can see where cars are coming from. Lots are from dealers. It's a bit rubbish as you can't see what something sold for which is why I signed up in the first place.

Luxury is a relative term!!! TBH, I preferred the 2CV my sister got a few years later although both are a POS. Odd that a vehicle so loved by the greenies had to be dropped because it couldn't be made clean enough.

Would love an SM. Knew someone at school who had a Beetle which had velocity stacks poking out of the front bonnet. The flip body revealed a V8 (not sure which) on a space frame chassis with a GRP body. Probably the only Beetle I would have!

The advantage of being in a Picasso is that there's one fewer for you to see... Compared to the Vectra we had before, the Picky A55Hole was very civilised - climate control and a CD player!

I never understood the point of five seater mpv. To me it seem to be a compromise in every sense of the word. I just don't get them.

I made the mistake of buying a xantia once.

Credit to the Xantia if it had the D Turbo engine. One of the few things that peugeot/citreon got right at the time.

I will never forget the trend that was young lads buying and ragging pug 306 D Turbo's

Although it is 5 seats,
cars that seat 5, someone gets the lumpy bit in the middle
