What will you be in 2013?

Or just post it here instead of driving traffic to your blog:

1 - THINK ABOUT RESOLUTIONS. As we look forward to a brand new year it is essential that we resolve to make as many pledges to ourselves as possible. And in order to define this new year as totally different and certainly better than any other before it, it is crucial that these promises are shaky, unrealistic, poorly planned and generally unobtainable. everyone does it, so don't feel bad at this stage - stick to the programme because it works, I promise!

2 - WRITE DOWN RESOLUTIONS. Now this is where it starts to get interesting. after spending Christmas week disgusted with your agonising greed and self loathing, you undoubtedly put a lot of effort into resolution number one, and now things get shockingly real when you motion to write them down. That's right, transfer your painfully hopeless affirmations to paper, where you can casually scan over the empty words whilst conspiring to ignore them throughout all of January. HOT TIP! Use block lettering filled with pretty crayon colours so you can admire the cynically metaphorical notion of your own blank, unfulfilled convictions for as long as you leave the damn list magneted to the fridge.

3 - BE A BETTER PERSON. I've always thought it a good idea to be vague about resolutions because that way, achievement is so much easier to, erm, achieve. This one really is a stunning catch-all, and essentially means be nicer to more people, work harder at the things you love, get outside your own head as often as possible, and generally stop being a total s***cake to the planet. Do not panic if you can't manage all or even any of these, just set up a charity direct debit or something.

4 - BE A BETTER PHOTOGRAPHER. I was struggling to understand what this actually means, and so by the unholy power of Google I looked it up before writing to find plenty of blog advice (blogvice?) on turning to manual mode, shooting raw and understanding f-stops. But since I know f-all about this technical stuff, I chose instead to reflect on all the other things it takes to be a photographer. Thus, i have decided to [a] take more pictures, since the law of probability dictates i will surely have more pictures worth keeping (I can beat five from last year, right?); stop looking through the viewfinder so much and start shooting blind (I saw William Klein do it once), and finally [c] stop complaining about the industry (its messed up, everyone knows it, but for the sake of skint PR firms everywhere can we just get on with it?!). There's probably other things i could have added here, but advice really isn't my thing in 2013.

5 - EAT MORE FRUIT. Because we should all eat more fruit.

Happy New Year everyone. Lets just get on with it, shall we?

1) Most people hate clicking other links to see content that could easily have been posted in the thread.

2) If you want people to visit your blog, write detailed and informative stuff, post a little in the thread and then say "for more info, check the blog!" Give people a taster.

People do it with photo critique threads, but they post a few photos first to wet the appetite. If it's just a link to their site most comment saying "couldn't be bothered".

Tbh, I'm not sure that resolutions are worth anyone visiting your thread. If you had posted them here and said "to see how I'm getting on with them I'll be commenting on my blog about it!" I wouldn't have said anything ;)

Thanks for the pointers on forum ettiquette - i'm not a regular and clearly it has all passed me by.

To be honest i'm a little startled at your eagerness to explain this to me, together with your opinion that my thread isn't worth visiting.

I'm only having a bit of fun pal. They're not even serious resolutions so I don't plan on any follow-up.

Just to back up what Harvey said, I never follow links posted in forums. I figure if the poster can't be bothered to post, why should I be bothered to click on a link. I also still work on the basis that not all links can be trusted, and am not prepared to follow random ones to check.

It's called BORDEM AT WORK :p and I meant that it wasn't worth the effort of visiting you blog, not this thread, my brain must have been distracted while typing that up.

And the only reason I posted is that I've liked some of your other comments and recognised your name, don't want you becoming "that guy that is just interested in his blog!" :p

Sorry, I don't really see the comparison between the simple effort to click and the effort required to write a whole post, and certainly a post that is likely to repeat the brief information contained in the link. But like I said, I'm new to forum formalities so I apologise if i'm wasting people's time.

Yes, I was pretty enthusiastic with my comments when I first arrived. Sadly it has been waning when all i'm beginning to see around here is pettiness, slapped wrists, oneupmanship and negativity from people who are just bored at work. Sorry I just don't get it.

I wouldn't take it all too personally David. People just prefer reading on here than clicking on links. There's a few that do it on here and only post links so maybe the tolerance levels got a bit low and you bore the brunt.

Thanks for your message of New Year cheer though, let's remember this cheer, folks :)

A not so blunt dig there, but water off a ducks back ;) Maybe something you can take on board so you can get back to be enthusiastic

The fact is, this is the place to share and it wouldn't have taken you 2 seconds to copy and paste it here like I did. I'm not one for sending people off the forum unless you have too and this was no way a telling off as you are making it out to be, just a friendly comment ;) Like I said, pop a taster and let people decide if they want to click a link, as most people just won't, we like it here, we're lazy and you need to give us the reason to change sites :D

On a side note, I like the graphical element to your blog, much nicer than the mass of text you first see on most :)

I didnt copy/paste because it belongs in the context of the blog (yes, together with my silly little pictures). Pasting the text elsewhere is like masking the subject simple because the viewer doesn't want to look at the background. Or something like that...insert better analogy here.

But, point taken. I won't post like this again.

Happy New Year everyone.

Back On Topic.....

I will be older, and wiser i hope!

Happy New Year to you David. I remember you posting on one of my threads with useful comments and enthusiasm. It's very much appreciated

It may also have to do with on at least one maybe two occasions I've received a lovely virus from clicking links that have then taken my tech support hours to track and kill, so me no clickey da linky unless posted by someone who has a reasonably high post count under my own personal measure, I'll often post a hyperlink to a full size image

What will I be in 2013.... another year older :(

I'll go one better Ken, I'll be a day older, no wiser and still going through this forum lol.

Happy New Year to one and all and I truely hope 2013 will be happy and healthy for all of you.
